2024 Spring Season, Week 13
The Spring season is over! What were the top shows this season?
by Morganna Nikolaevna

Perhaps the most impactful show, at least for me, this season was Girls Band Cry. While it most certainly did not stick the landing (it's ending was a weak "status quo" ending that I don't think anyone really liked), the show nevertheless inspired me to finally start learning the piano, something I've been practicing everyday this summer! Monster #8 has been much stronger than expected—I'm glad it's getting a second season. God's Games, while it had a miserable mid-season, had a really fun finale! Oh, and The New Gate has somehow been more interesting than I thought, even for being a generic isekai. The ending felt pretty strong, and it'd be cool if it got a season 2 (it won't). Jellyfish was still a fine show with a lot of interesting characters, and Astro Note was a proper "fun" show. And, despite the delays, Whisper Me A Love Song had its best episode yet! Let's hope the Summer season will be just as interesting!

0 Figure 1 Girls Band Cry, Episode 13
Nina, Momoka, Subaru, Rupa, and Tomo all thanking the audience for watching their show!

I can't believe we're here. The summer finale of French-to-English machine-translated subs of this 3DCG band anime. Regardless of the quality of the ending, I can say this anime had a large impact on me because it was what made me finally start learning the piano (in fact, I took a break from practicing the piano to watch this episode!). Episode 13 of Girls Band Cry begins with a flashback of Nina and Hina in school. Nina wants to help out another girl who is being bullied, but Hina advises her not to get involved, lest she become the bully's next target. The next day their agent, Miura, tells them their song was a flop. She takes responsibly for failing to promote them, and promises to turn things around. Momoka believes it's a problem with their songs. The next day, Hina subscribes to one of Nina's social media accounts and meets with her. Hina tells Nina that she's willing to help fill their venue... if she's really to accept her failure and ask for her help. And while the other members of the band are willing to accept the help, Nina isn't. Later, Nina tells her band mates about her past with Hina.

The band speaks with their agent Miura and decides to withdraw from their talent agency. They still play their battle of the bands, albeit with a smaller audience, albeit with Hina watching, albeit without a talent agency. Roll credits. No season two announcement, as one would expect. So long, and good night.

0 Figure 2 Whisper Me a Love Song, Episode 10
Aki and Shiho work together in their band.

I don't think we're ever going to be able to finish Whisper Me a Love Song. I thought we'd be able to wrap up Episode 11 and 12 next week and the week after, but apparently they too are delayed with no release date set. Even more production delays, if the threads on /a/ are to be believed. Anyways, Episode 10 starts with SSGirls agreeing to play Yori's song, with Yori asking them to all help write the lyrics. Meanwhile, Shiho and and the other memebers of Laureley take Himari to Hajime's sister's grave, Kyou, the very violinist Shiho was trying to beat. After her funeral, Hajime tells Shiho that Kyou was happy to have met her, and was looking for to hearing her, one day, play the guitar. Shiho continues to visit Kyou's grave season after season, year after year, to discuss the progress of her band, eventually playing with Momoka and Hajime to continue Kyou's memory, her dream of hearing her play. Himari realizes the "weight" she felt in Laureley's music was the weight of their collective memory, their collective love, of Kyou.

Later, Himari tells Yori why she quit SSGirls, but Yori still wonders why Shiho hates her specifically. Himari asks Shiho why she doesn't like Yori, and she explains how she fell in love with Aki, but Aki loved Yori instead. Himari asks if the real reason she quit SSGirls was her love for Aki—Shiho dodges the question then leaves. That night, Shiho reflects on her past with Aki and realizes she's always been in love with her. When she writes and tries to deliver a love letter to her, she finds Yori talking with Aki and realizes Aki is in love with Yori. She rips up the letter and leaves. This was a great episode. By far and away the best one so far. I'm actually shocked. It's a shame I'll have to wait months for 11 and 12.

0 Figure 2 Monster #8, Episode 12
Director General Shinomiya fights against Kafka.

I went into Episode 12 of Monster #8 properly excited. Season 2 has already been announced, but I still wonder how the fight between Kafka and the Director General will play out. Anyways, Episode 12 starts with Captain Mina Ashiro being summoned to headquarters. Meanwhile, the fight between Kafka and the Director continues. Against Kafka's renewed strength the director struggles. Kafka, however, slowly loses his grip on humanity as the fight progresses. His daughter, Shinomiya, suspects he may be giving Kafka a chance to survive. As Kafka is about to deliver a killing blow, he has a vision of Mina telling him he'll be waiting. As a result, he stays his hand strikes himself, then collapses, returning into human form.

Afterwards, the Director General speaks with Captain Mina Ashiro regarding Kafka's fate. She explains how he saved many lives during his short time with The Third Division and requests clemency, adding that he has more humanity than anyone. The committee requests Kafka be eliminated but The Director General refuses. Instead, he says they'll use Kafka as a living weapon to fight Kaiju. He tells Kafka to prove his worth if he wants to survive. As the episode ends, Third Division learns Kafka will be coming back. Kaiju No. 9 learns more about how to counter humans and plans to bring Kafka to his side.

0 Figure 3 Gods' Games We Play, Episode 13
The final boss of the labyrinth: Anubis.

I am perhaps more excited than I should be for Gods' Games We Play Episode 13 given that I'm practically the only person in the world watching the show. It starts right where Episode 12 left off, with Fay's entire encountering the last boss's... tomb. In the arena where they'd fight her, they instead fight a monument to her with the inscription "I lay here; there were no humans who could conquer this game, and I grew tired—goodbye". Fay tells everyone they will revive the boss and defeat them to close the labyrinth. Fay plans to conquer the labyrinth by completing every room, killing every monster, and discovering every item. Then, they'll return to the God's tomb and ring the bell of revival. Due to the complexity of the task, additional teams of apostles arrive to help Fay conquer and close the labyrinth.

At 99.9% completion, Pearl finds the final gimmick, and Dax and Kelritch arrive to help him complete it. They have to throw multiple 20-sided-dice and make them all land on the same number, 1, which Dax completes on his first throw. The receive an item that allows them to save the party from defeat. They enter the God's chamber as their completion increases to 100%, Pearl rings the Bell of Revival, and the God awakens: Anubis, the God of the Underworld. The victory conditions appear: Defeat Anubis. Using all of the items they've collected along with their Arises, they're able to counter all of Anubis's attacks. Anubis says they have conquered her labyrinth and declares them winners. She gives Fay a key that allows him to use her items outside the labyrinth, and a returns to the underworld. When Fay returns, all of the apostles cheer. As the credits roll, Fay realizes Leshea is the woman who raised him. Fay, Leshea, Pearl, Nel, and Ouroboros, enter another Gate.

0 Figure 4 THE NEW GATE, Episode 12
Shin and Schnee speaking at Valmer's ball.

Ladies and gentlemen, the gate closes today. The finale of THE NEW GATE, Episode 12, begins with Shin and Princess Rionne heading to Valmer. They have a few days to prepare a defense for the oncoming monster horde. Shin informs the Guildmaster in Valmer, who immediately declares a state of emergency. Afterwards, he meets Berett, a support character not of his, but one of his friends. He explains to Berett he doesn't want to reveal his full strength so he's working with the town instead of destroying the entire horde himself. Berett informs Shin several of his friends, Hibineko, Shadow, and Holly are all here in Valmer as well. He's given a list of other characters in the world—all of which were involved with him in the past. He's also given a list of known player killers. Shin also learns a powerful monster may appear in hordes which he plans to confront.

Schnee, Tiera, and Yuzuha all arrive and meet up with Shin then travel to the Lord's castle to discuss their plans. Schnee further warns them their may be a powerful monster leading the horde. That night, they set up outside the city walls as the horde approaches. Schnee instantly vaporizes the first wave, and Shin jumps in to counter the second and third, while the remaining heroes charge in to clean up the rest (including our old friend Wilhelm and Lacia). Shin draws a cursed weapon to defeat the enemies and encounters a powerful demon... that he's able to instantly defeat. Afterwards, they town holds a ball to celebrate their victory. At the ball, Schnee speaks with Shin about the other players (and player killers) in the world. She explains she doesn't want to return to the past Shin who killed everyone and kept everyone at arm's length. She tells Shin she loves him, and her feelings won't change, then they kiss. The episode ends with Shin, Schnee, Tiera, and Yuzuha leaving on their next journey.

0 Figure 5 Chillin' in Another World with Level 2 Super Cheat Powers, Episode 12
Flio and Rys kiss after saving the bath house from Yuigarde.

Here we are. Episode 12 of Chillin' in Another World with Level 2 Super Cheat Powers. We start with the fight between Ghozal and Yuigarde. Rys joins the fight at defeats the false hero, and Ghozal uses an attack that seals Yurigarde's power. He tells Yuigarde it was a spell humans were trying to invent that he himself perfected. Flio casts magic to repair the bathhouse while the false Hero and his mistress flee. That evening, Ghozal tells Flio they could create a pact between demons and humans, but Flio tells him no pact will permanently removing fighting from the world (extremely bad take). Balirossa thanks Ghozal for saving everyone, and Rys tells Flio she wants their child to have a safe life. Afterwards, we see everyone living happily at Flio's estate. Princess Elizabeth becomes Queen Elizabeth.

0 Figure 6 Wonderful Pretty Cure!, Episode 21
Yuki telling a student to move so she can sit next to Mayu.

Episode 21 of Wonderful Pretty Cure! begins with Yuki transferring into Mayu's (and Iroha's and Komugi's) school. And it was more yuri than we've had all season, that's for sure. Yuki excels at everything, but remains clingy with Mayu. Yuki speaks with Iroha privately, and explains how Mayu lost an old friend at school, causing her great pain. Yuki tells Iroha if she's going to hurt Yuki, it'd be better if she never got involved. Iroha (and Komugi) tell Yuki that it would be more "wonderful" if they become closer friends. During class, a Garugaru hatches on school grounds that puts most of the school to sleep. It's a Garugaru Panda that has the ability to put people to sleep, and the Cures continually have to fight sleep as they try to approach it. Cure Nyammy turns Friendly into a... tire, and the panda plays with it to wake it up, and Cure Nyammy and Lillian's joint attack purify it.

0 Figure 7 Mysterious Disappearances, Episode 12
Oto and Ren walk to the train platform for Oto to return home.

The finale of Mysterious Disappearances, Episode 12, starts with Ren cremating his younger sister in a flashback. Sumireko continues to try contacting Ren, but fails. Meanwhile, Oto says goodbye to Uname-sensei and leaves her cellphone with her. The Old Man speaks with Ren in the train station and tells him he knows he's not going back with Oto. The Cat arrives and Ren tells her he and Oto will be leaving soon. After Oto gets her ticket Ren walks her to the platform. As she boards the train, she thanks him as he crumbles to ash as she departs. The Old Man finds Sumireko and explains the situation: Oto and Ren are gone. The next morning Uname-sensei and hands her Oto's phone. On it, there's a video of Oto thanking Sumireko for everything. Sumireko encounters a stream of black flowers leading her back to Hon-hime's bookstore, where she hands her the novel she wrote. Hon-hime tells Sumireko that Ren never read her novel in order to tie regrets to this world. Sumireko admits she needs Ren as the credits roll. In a post-credits scene, Ren is back at work. Ren finds the book he cremated his sister with.

0 Figure 8 Spice & Wolf, Episode 13
Holo and Nora (cute) laugh at Lawrence's expense.

I only vaguely remember the what happened in the Spice & Wolf light novels after Nora's arc, but I do remember at least liking it until Col showed up to ruin the entire story. So let's hope we get something interesting starting in Episode 13 and before we ever get to Col. The gold smuggling operation was a success—Lawrence is out of debt and Nora should be able to open her tailoring store. At dinner Holo collapses and we see a sequence of Holo's inner thoughts where she expounds the joys of traveling with Lawrence (along with her jealousy of Nora). Holo is sick, and Lawrence cares for her while she recovers. Throughout her recovery, she continues to express her jealousy of Nora, and gets annoyed whenever Lawrence mentions her. In a post credits scene, we see Holo telling her future daughter about Lawrence.

0 Figure 9 Unnamed Memory, Episode 12
Queen Tinasha in a timeline where she never met Oscar and Lanak never sacrificed her.

Well. Here we are. Our last Tinasha Tuesday until forever... is what I would say until I learned this was a split cour (or at least that's what some random on Twitter said). The finale of the first season, Episode 12, of Unnamed Memory starts with Oscar helping Tinasha clean her tower on her day off. While cleaning he finds an artifact that teleports him into the past where he finds Tinasha as a child, prior to her execution by her brother. Tinasha tells her she can stay in his room until she finds a way to send him back. Lanak arrives and gives her a necklace—Oscar warns Tinasha that Lanaka cannot be trusted and will hurt her, but she dismisses him, explaining he's the only family she has. Later, Lanak takes her to the royal treasury and she finds the blue orb that send Oscar into the past, and that night Oscar leaves to get it.

As Oscar recovers the Orb from the treasury, Lanak arrives and takes Tinasha to the chamber where he plans to sacrifice her. Oscar intervenes and and stops the sacrifice. Instead, Lanak sacrifices himself and the ritual that destroys Tuldarr begins. Oscar guides her into stopping the ritual, saving Tuldarr and herself. Oscar tells Tinasha that by saving her he's changed the future—by stopping the ritual they will not meet in the future, and he will never been her husband. He tells her to become a good Queen, then vanishes. As the credits roll, we see Tinasha become Queen. Alone. Okay. Listen. That was actually a semi-good ending. I did not expect this terrible anime to stick the landing like that. But saving her in the past meaning they don't meet in the future. The tie-back to Oscar saving his own mother and being familiar with the process. That was interesting. Maybe season 2 (if there is one) will be good.

0 Figure 10 The Train to the End of the World, Episode 12
All the girls departing for Agano after stopping 7G.

Inshallah, praise be to Ganesha, here we are at the finale of The Train to the End of the World. We had to wait a week, so let's hope it's worth it. Episode 12 begins with the girls chasing after Yoka's train as it departs Ikebukuro—they need Yoka to press the 7G button herself. As they catch up to Yoka's train, Shizuru, Nadeshiko, Reimi, and Akari all manage to jump on board. Pontaro (human) arrives, and tells Pontaro that 7G is killing Yoka. He throws Pontaro overboard, and tells the girls that Yoka is in their hands now. Shizuru approaches Yoka and asks if she remembers her, but instead she attacks. She repeats Shizuru's disparaging words from earlier, and attacks her again. When Pontaro (dog) barks, she regains her senses and, after realizing her life as the "Witch of Ikebukuro" is miserable, her memories of Agano come flooding back. The girls hand her the 7G button and she presses it. The world warps, and the girls arrive back at Ikebukuro, although it feels a bit different than before. The ex-Zombies become human, but still bow to their Queen, and the girls return to Agano. On their way back, they still see some residual effects of 7G, and realize the world is still slight different than before.

0 Figure 11 WIND BREAKER, Episode 13
The freshmen Furin class leaving to confront KEEL.

Today is the final episode of WIND BREAKER... is what I'd like to say but apparently it's getting a second season. I will have to seriously consider whether or not I want to watch season 2 given how unremarkable season 1 has been in the latter half (the first half was fine). Anyways, Episode 13 starts with all the class reps meeting the "Four Kings" of Bofurin on the roof. Umemiya asks them all to keep Bofurin safe. After school, Sakura several others encounter several members of KEEL who are searching for a Furin student, and find their classmate Anzai unconscious. Later, Anzai tells a girl, Tsuchiya, that he can't find Nagato (and old friend), nor can he ask Bofurin for help—he can't drag them into this. Tsuchiya tells Sakura that Anzai's old friend is now in KEEL (and a thief), and Anzai is trying to bring him back. Sakura promises to help.

The next day at school Anzai receives a message from KEEL: a photo of him being beat up. He tells Sakura about his friend, and how KEEL is extorting him. The entire freshmen class joins and they, along with Sakura, tell them they'll help. As the credits roll, they all depart for the shipyard to comfort KEEL.

0 Figure 12 Mission: Yozakura Family, Episode 12
Taiyo talking to his grandfather in a bar.

Coachmen, hold the horses, stay, I pray Mission: Yozakura Family is a split cour so I can at least get a break between now and next week. Alas, I doubt it is. Episode 12 starts Seiji, a character from over ten episodes ago, investigating a prison escape. Taiyo's grandfather Ban smuggles himself into the Yozakura mansion. Kyoichiro captures him and tells him he's going back to prison—he's a permanent informant in the inside. Instead, he flees and Taiyo is tasked with tracking him down and bringing him back. In a bar, Ban talks about his wife, and tells him that life is finite and it should be cherished. His wife arrives at the bar and place, him in handcuffs, and sends him back to prison. Still, he breaks out of prison the next day while the entire family goes out on a shopping trip where they buy various spy supplies like guns, bullets, and hand grenades. Taiyo finds what he thinks is a lost child, but instead the child explains her father was "taken". They find him in the basement, where Taiyo is ambushed by many spies who want the bounty on his head. Kyoichiro saves him and they all ho home.

0 Figure 13 The Many Sides of Voice Actor Radio, Episode 12
Chika telling Yumiko that, after all the pain they've been through, she stills hates her.

Ugh. Finally. We can end the madness of The Many Sides of Voice Actor Radio this week. I don't ever want to see this terrible anime ever again. This was easily in the bottom three shows this season (that I didn't drop). The story, the characters, everything was bad. Episode 12 starts with Chika telling Yumiko to stop worrying about the veteran actors—act with her heart, and be ready to "jump down their throats". She explains they're only giving her advice because they believe she can actually improve. The other voice actresses arrive at Yumiko's retakes (even though they don't have to) and begin recording. Yumiko does great... so great that Chika fumbles a bit while acting with her. The director says she did great, and thanks her for her performance. Back on their radio show they decide to have a "lovey dovey" episode to offset how angry Chika has been following Yumiko's performance. Their plan is they'll both talk about what they like about the other. They do it... the session is awkward, but they get through it, with Chika telling Yumiko she'll always see her as a rival.

Other Remarks

I haven't made a lot of updates on Morganna's House recently as I've been very busy learning and practicing the piano! I practice for several hours everyday! I really want to get better before Summer's end, but I only have a bout a month left of summer... I need more time!

2024 Spring Season, Week 12
We had multiple finales this week! Were any of them major standouts?
by Morganna Nikolaevna

We're finally having some finales this week, and it pains me to say goodbye to some of the goofy shows like Astro Note and Jellyfish Can't Swim in the Night. We'll have even more finales next week, like that of Girls Band Cry!

0 Figure 1 Astro Note, Episode 12
The final end card for Astro Note.

After the absolutely off-the-wall ending to Episode 11, I went into the finale of Astro Note very excited. Episode 12 begins the Hubby emperor telling Mira that he won't attack Earth if Mira marries him—she of course refuses, and they begin their attack on Earth. Astro Lodge (the robot version) blasts off and Mira and Takumi fight the Hubby fleet. Shoin appears and explains that he betrayed Planet Wid on the condition he could marry Mira himself, but Planet Hub's emperor dismisses this notion. Mira tells them both that her heart already belongs to Takumi. Mira learns that the Emperor first tried to kidnap her mother, and this is why she fled to Earth originally. Mira defeats the Emperor, and Takumi awakens back in Astro Lodge. He asks if Mira would like to return to Planet Wid, and she explains there's so many new foods she'd like to try—she's staying on Earth. Naosuke protests, but Mira abdicates her right to the throne, then relieves him of his duty. Naosuke agrees to take the key back to Wid.

Afterwards, Aoi tells Naosuke ("Octo-san") that she's returning to work with an old friend at a law agency. Takumi applies to be a chef at another restaurant, but continues to make breakfast at Astro Lodge. At Naosuke's going away party, Shoin appears to steal their roast beef. Shoin tells him he has nowhere to go—he can't return to Wid. Mira asks if he'd like to stay in Room 8, which is vacant, and he agrees. Yamashita decides to go to Wid with Naosuke to finish his novel. Mira writes her mother a letter telling her she plans to live on Earth with the people she loves. Afterwards, Mira asks Takumi if he'd finally like to go to the aquarium.

0 Figure 2 Gods' Games We Play, Episode 12
Fay and his team in the treasure room, about to enter the final stage of the labyrinth.

I can't believe we're here at the final episode of Gods' Games We Play. The show... wasn't that good. But hey, we still didn't drop it, which was more than can be said about several other shows this season. Episode 12 starts with Uroboros defeating the boss and a save item appears. Uroboros informs them the game they're playing never ends. The "ending" condition is defeating the god who created the labyrinth, but that god is already dead. Fay tells the others to use the save item to leave the labyrinth, while he, Pearl, Leshea, and Uroboros advance further into the labyrinth. They encounter a treasure room, but an angel appears to "purify" their filth, resetting them back to the raid boss. Upon further exploration, they find a treasure chest behind a waterfall that contains... swimsuits. The encounter the angel again, who again purifies them, resetting their progress, and they realize they needed to bath in the waterfall to reset their "purity". Upon entering the treasure room, they obtain a key that prevents them from losing their progress. They're then informed the last boss is here. Back on Earth, additional Apostles vow to save Fay and form a rescue team as the end credits roll.

0 Figure 3 Monster #8, Episode 11
Kafka fights against The Director General of the Defense Force.

After the absolutely hype Episode 10 I think my expectations going into Episode 11 of Monster #8 were perhaps too high. I know they can't keep this pace up. The prologue starts with the Director General of the Defense Force, Isao Shinomiya, ordering the Third Division to hand over Kaiju No. 8 (Kafka). After the opening, Mina and Hoshina arrive to transport Kafka to headquarters. Kafka apologizes, but they ignore him. The entire squad, all of third division, is the security detail for his transport. As he departs, Reno tells him to have faith that he'll come back. On the transport, Mina tells Kafka that him dashing in to save everyone, regardless of the consequences to himself, was "Just like him". She tells him they'll testify in his favor—no one in the Third Division thinks of him as his enemy. He asks if he can still stand by her side, and she responds yes—she'll always be waiting. As they leave, the members of Third Division salute him as he departs.

Several days later, Shinomiya meets with her father and tells him that Kafka saved her life—she requests he not be eliminated. Her father informs her that he's a Kaiju, much like the one that killed her mother. Regardless, Shinomiya says that she still believes in him. Several members of Third Division are transferred due to their connection with Kafka, including Reno. The Director General arrives and prepares to execute Kafka. As Kafka pleads, the Director attacks him. Kafka partially transforms and attempts to dodge attacks until the Director's suit overheats, but struggles because the Director is using weapons made from the arm's of Kaiju No. 2. Eventually, he's forced to fully transform, and attacks the Director at full strength.

0 Figure 4 Girls Band Cry, Episode 12
Members of Togenashi Togeari talking to their agent after recording a new song.

I stopped practicing the piano to watch Episode 12 of Girls Band Cry, and I started practicing the piano because of Girls Band Cry... there's a joke in there somewhere, I'm sure. Anyways, Episode 12 starts with a photo shoot for Togenashi Togeari. Afterwards, they sign their paperwork with their agent, Miura. That evening they throw a party at Momoka's house to celebrate. A few days later, they drop by a studio to record a new song... that Momoka wrote about Nina (is this yuri?). Miura learns of a proposed "battle of the bands" between Diamond Dust and Togenashi Togeari on Valentine's Day concert. However, a careful examination of the contract reveals that the winner will be based on ticket sales, which Diamond Dust will of course win. In other words, it's really just so Diamond Dust boast about winning. As such, they turn down the gig. Meanwhile, Momoka struggles to find a good composition to match her lyrics about Nina. She explains that she's afraid of "losing everything". After several weeks of attempts, they finish it, and the sound engineer tells them it's good. Miura tells them the same. At the end of the episode, Nina checks how many views the new song got... and it's only 103.

0 Figure 5 Jellyfish Can't Swim in the Night, Episode 12
Kano, Mei, Yoru, and Kiui looking at the repainted Jellyfish mural.

I can't believe we're here. The finale, Episode 12, of Jellyfish Can't Swim in the Night. The prologue begins Kano receiving an email from her mother, Yukine, asking JELEE to perform at Sunflower Doll's end-of-year concert. Kano agrees. At the concert, Kano briefly sees Mero after her performance, and tells Kiui and Mei she's afraid of letting the fans down. When she walks on stage she hesitates until she sees Yoru's Jellyfish drawings projected on nearby buildings, which gives her the confidence she needs to deliver a great set. Afterwards, Kano tells Yoru she'll sing for her sake, and Kano cries when she sees her name, Kano Hayakawa, listed in the credits. The next day, Kano learns that their live stream broke 50,000 concurrent viewers, more than the Tokyo Dome. As an eerie Fata Morgana-esque song plays, we see all the girls graduating from school. After graduation, they all return to the original Jellyfish mural and repaint it.

0 Figure 6 Whisper Me a Love Song, Episode 9
Himari throwing a party for the members of SS Girls and Laureley.

We are so back... I hope. We waited two weeks for Episode 9 of Whisper Me a Love Song, let's hope it was worth it. We start with Himari with Momoka making sweets in preparation for the upcoming festival. Himari plans to have a "taste-testing" event beforehand and invites both SS Girls and Laureley in the hopes it gets them to make up. But when she does... it's about as awkward as you'd expect. Himari explains she'd like them all to become friends, and that's the real reason she through the party—it made her sad seeing them bitter and resentful. Aki asks Shiho why she quit, she refuses to answer and leaves. As she leaves, she learns that Himari is going out with Yori and becomes further enraged. Shiho explains she'll back out the band showdown... unless Laureley can have Himari as their manager. Himari agrees.

Later, Shiho tells Himari that, if she does a good job managing Laureley between now and the festival, they'll fulfill her request. The next day on the roof, Himari tells Yori she wants to see her every day. Over break, the members realize that Laureley is just plain better at playing their instruments, so they're going to have to come up with a new song to "wow" the audience. While eating dinner with the members of Laureley, Himari asked how they all met and formed the band, and Shiho tells her she'll tell her next week.

0 Figure 7 THE NEW GATE, Episode 11
Shin and Princess Rionne in the Holy Land of Calkia.

Episode 11 of THE NEW GATE starts with Shin and Princess Rionne beginning to clear monsters in The Holy Land of Calkia. Shin tells Rionne they'll have to follow a fixed route to escape. When they run into a large slime, Rionne rushes in to attack it, but is immediately captured. Shin able to defeat it, but Rionne loses her clothes in the battle, and has to borrow Shin's clothes as a replacement. At the gates to the city, they encounter a large griffin egg that hatches when they approach. However, Shin and Rionne struggle to defeat it because it can quickly heal itself. Shin explains it may be easier to distract the griffin and flee the city leaving it alive, but this is just a ploy to get her to leave so he can fight it at full power. After being bathed in a mysterious holy light, he's able to defeat it and Shin and Rionne are able to leave the city. That evening when Shin and Rionne set up camp, Rionne again asks Shin to join her kingdom, but he refuses. The next morning, Shin and Rionne are ambushed by a large group of monsters heading directly for Valmer.

0 Figure 8 I Was Reincarnated as the 7th Prince so [..] Magical Ability, Episode 12
The party thrown by Prince Albert following the fight with Jade.

I learned today that I Was Reincarnated as the 7th Prince so I Can Take My Time Perfecting My Magical Ability is a split cour, so Episode 12 is not the end! We'll get 12 more episodes later on. For now, though, we get the finale of the Lloyd vs. Jade fight. We begin with Jade casting Mortal Dark Sphere, which Lloyd is able to instantly counter using a similar technique. Lloyd hits Jade directly with a void spell and he disintegrates. After the fight, Lloyd constructs a memorial to Jade. Albert and Sylpha approach him, and thanks him for defeating Jade's demon. Nevertheless, he informs him that all the members of the Assassin's Guild have been taken into custody, and they're willing to pledge their loyalty to Lloyd personally, or accept any punishment Albert sees fit. Lloyd accepts their allegiance. Tao arrives, a bit too late for the fight, but is still invited to the after (tea) party. Ren asks to work alongside Lloyd the same way Sylpha does, and Lloyd agrees.

0 Figure 9 Chillin' in Another World with Level 2 Super Cheat Powers, Episode 11
Rys asking Flio to go to the Yanagi Bath (of fertility) with her.

I know I've said it before but I'll say it again this week: the initial charm of Chillin' in Another World with Level 2 Super Cheat Powers is slowly starting to wear off and it's beginning to feel more like a slog with each passing week. There's just so many characters and this point it feels like a mess. Anyways, in the prologue Sir Yuigarde struggles to lead the Dark Army following Ghozal's departure. Following the opening, Flio and Rys win a group hot spring voucher, and the entire party (including Ghozal and Uliminas) go to visit it. While at the hot spring, they encounter Yuigarde and Phufun disguised as humans, who have brought along many other demons (in human force) to raise their morale. In Djinn Hiya's "mentalscape" she attempts to futa rape Damalynas. Meanwhile, Byleri goes to the "Museum of Grown Up Delights" and Hiya joins her. The failed Hero and his mistress also arrive at the hot spring with stolen demon treasure, and it transforms the failed hero (and his mistress) into a powerful demon. Flio is able to stop the damage, while everyone else leaves to fight it. Sir Yuigarde adsorbs the power himself and attacks Ghozal.

0 Figure 10 Spice & Wolf, Episode 12
Lawrence, Holo, and Nora speaking to each other after completing their gold smuggling plot.

Is this the end of the Spice & Wolf remake? I hope so. It haven't been that impressed. Although the opening song is good, I guess. Anyways, Episode 12 begins with Lawrence breaking free and encountering Holo. Lawrence explains to Holo that they've been betrayed—Nora will die too if they don't intervene. Holo transforms into her wolf form and they run full speed out of the forest. They catch up to Nora and the trading company and Holo attacks everyone but Nora and her sheep. Afterwards, Lawrence tells Nora (and Holo) they'll continue with the smuggling operation as planned—the gold is worth ten times as much if they smuggle it through customs, so despite their betrayal they'll continue as planned. Back in Ruvinheigen he's able to clear all his debts. Oh. It's not the end. There was an Episode 13 announcement. Ugh.

0 Figure 11 Wonderful Pretty Cure!, Episode 20
Cure Nyammy and Cure Lillian executing their new joint attack.

Going into Episode 20 of Wonderful Pretty Cure! I had no idea what to expect. I certainly didn't expect Cure Lillian so soon after Cure Nyammy. It starts with everyone going to Niko Garden. Iroha introduces Cure Nyammy and Cure Lillian to Mey Mey. Mayu explains Yuki doesn't really like being around a lot of people. Yuki leaves the group and encounters a fawn that thanks her for curing her heart of the Garugaru darkness. Shortly after the group returns to Animal Town a Garugaru hatches, and Cure Wonderful, Friendly, and Lillian arrive to catch it (with Yuki following close behind like a weirdo). However, they struggle to catch it because it's a Garugaru fox that can transform, and Cure Nyammy arrives and, when she's about to beat it up, hesitates, remembering the words she heard in Niko Garden earlier. Lillian and Friendly execute a joint attack to purify the fox, and Cure Friendly and Wonderful send it back to Niko Garden. Afterwards, Mey Mey gives Yuki and Mayu chest to send animals back to Niko Garden themselves, and asks if she can go to school with Mayu like Komugi.

0 Figure 12 Mysterious Disappearances, Episode 11
Oto and Nodoka together in a private pool.

With Episode 11 of Mysterious Disappearances starting a new arc, I imagine Episode 12 will simply end this arc and the show, with no hopes of a second season. This may be for the best, though, because I don't particularly want a second season. I wasn't a big fan, although it was still better than Dark Gathering. The prologue begins with Ren and Sumireko meeting a recovered and healthy Nodoka, who returns Yorumun's cursed tablet. After the opening, Sumireko tells Ren that she and Oto should go to the beach. Ren gets a phone call warning him that a cat is coming to kill him, and the "Cat Sovereign" appears and attempts to steal the cursed tablet, but Sumireko is able to get it back. That night, Ren returns it along with the book to the train station. Oto drops by Sumireko's place and asks to stay the night, and tells Sumireko that she and Ren may be able to return home... after she finishes her novel. Sumireko tells her it's a story about all the Curiosities they've recovered.

Sumireko tells Oto that she's afraid of going near water because, in her family, it's said a kappa will curse them. The next morning Oto and friends go to a private pool. While there, she tells her classmates she's leaving to go home for summer break and gives her friends presents. Meanwhile, Ren struggles with the notion of becoming a ticket himself for Oto's return trip. If he does, Oto will be able to return home but he'll be gone forever. He takes up the offer, and is told Oto will be able to reach her stop: Andoro Station. Sumireko finishes her book, Mysterious Disappearances, and submits it to her publisher, but can't get in touch with Ren to read it.

0 Figure 13 A Salad Bowl of Eccentrics, Episode 12
Livia plays with her new band shortly before Noa is arrested for insider trading.

Inshallah, praised be to Ganesha, we're finally going to be done with A Salad Bowl of Eccentrics this week... unless there's a surprise Episode 13 next week which I hope there isn't. Episode 12 starts with Sara, Yuna, and her classmates exchanging candy on Valentine's day—they give the extras to Sosuke. When Brenda tries to give him homemade chocolate, he refuses. Meanwhile, Livia continues to waste money at the pachinko parlor, and gambles late in the evening, almost missing her band's first concert. Moments after Livia arrives, they put on their set and rapidly group on popularly due, in part, to Noa manipulating her followers into attending. Eventually they get signed to a major record label. Sara graduates elementary school thee months later. At her graduation ceremony, Sara gives the parting speech and breaks out into song. Later, Noa is arrested for insider trading. She calls her lawyer, Brenda, for help. Sosuke and Sara learn of Livia's band and its resulting collapse following Noa's arrest.

0 Figure 14 Unnamed Memory, Episode 11
Oscar and Tinasha get married.

Ugh. Episode 11 of Unnamed Memory. The only upside of this show is that the last episode is next week and I can be done with Tinasha's very bad and boring series forever. It starts with Oscar and Tinasha visiting Yarda and offering to save their prince who has been taken by Leonora, "The Witch Who Cannot Be Summoned". Princess Nephelli of Yarda distrusts Tinasha and dislikes the fact that Oscar is going to marry her. Tinasha says she can kill Leonora if Oscar takes care of her servant, Unai. Oscar asks Tinasha to marry her after the battle with Leonora is over, and she agrees. Leonora and Unai appear and Tinasha and Oscar immediately attack. Leonora summons The Amber Castle and plans to trap Oscar inside. As Tinasha is about to deliver a fatal blow Leonora, Oscar calls for aid. Oscar and Tinasha fight Leonora and Unai together, and Oscar is able to kill Leonora while Tinasha is able to defeat Unai. Afterwards, Oscar and Tinasha get married in a lavish ceremony, one which Lavina, The Witch of Silence attends.

0 Figure 15 Mission: Yozakura Family, Episode 11
Hoshifuru gives Taiyo is Bronze Class spy card following is successful completion of the test.

Mission: Yozakura Family has been a big of a mixed bag, with the last few episodes feeling a bit self-contained. This leads to a situation where when I open the episode I have absolutely zero expectations, but also zero motivation to watch it. Episode 11 starts with Taiyo inquiring about how to obtaining a "Spy License". Shoin's game is "hacked" and a ghost appears in it, scaring Futaba. Later, Futaba explains that she's less afraid of ghosts and more afraid of death claiming the ones she loves. The next day Taiyo attends the Spy License exam and excels in early tests. Another test taker, Tsukiyo Hoshifuru, approaches Taiyo and proceeds to flirt with him (and helps him) throughout the remaining tests. In the final challenge, Hoshifuru sacrifices his chance to win to help Taiyo, but Taiyo ensures to they both finish the challenge together. Hoshifuru reveals himself as the proctor of the entire exam, and reveals his humanity allowed him to pass.

0 Figure 16 WIND BREAKER, Episode 12
Suo and Nire nominate Sakura to be the freshmen class representative.

Episode 12 of WIND BREAKER starts with Sakura being nominated to be the freshmen class captain, with Suo and Nire being his secondary. After school, Sakura, Suo, and Nire follow the sophomore class captain Kaji and help find a missing cat. Kaji tells Sakura to live up to everyone's expectations. The next morning, Kotoha tells Sakura to start learning his classmate's names, and when he arrives at school Nire starts introducing everyone in his class. They learn that a classmate, Anzai, is hurt, and all the class captains are called to the roof. While there, Nire-san explains he's learned the name of everyone in school (he won't be useful in a fight anyways). Umemiya arrives with the Four Kings of Bofurin and the meeting begins.

0 Figure 17 The Many Sides of Voice Actor Radio, Episode 11
Yumiko having another emotional breakdown because her show is terrible.

I was genuinely saddened when I opened the magnet link for Episode 11 of The Many Sides of Voice Actor Radio because I thought it would be Episode 12 and I'd be done with this show this week. Alas, we will have to cope with it next week, too. Episode 11 begins with Mori-san, another voice actress on the show Phantom, warning her that in the next episode she'll be the main character. If her acting is poor, the entire show's quality will suffer. After a week of practicing, Yumiko still under performs, and they're forced to extend the recording session to do retakes late into the night. Regardless, it's still not good enough and they plan to rerecord the next day. In a flashback we see Yumiko getting her first voice acting role, trying her best, but still nevertheless getting harassed online for her performance. Afterwards, she decides to ask Yuhi for help.

Other Remarks

I got to at or around 90% in The Promise of the World from Howl's Moving Castle, so either today or tomorrow I will move on to a new song! Piano practice is going great! I'm considering getting a smaller 61 key digital keyboard so I can practice on the go... and by that I mean at school next year. I'll keep you posted!

I replaced the battery in my Sony NWZX2-10 Walkman!
I had to learn how to solder to make this replacement! I can't believed it worked!
by Morganna Nikolaevna

Back in 2017, seven years ago, I convinced my mother to buy me a Sony NWZX2-10 Walkman for the eye-watering price of $1,281.86. If my memory is correct, I convinced her to buy it for the duplicitous trade-off of this music player for me to accompany her on a long car trip to see my older brother. I bit rude, I must say, on my part. I would have gone on the trip regardless (although it wasn't a particularly fun trip). I spent years listening to music using this player on my morning walks, and after several years I grew concerned that I may be time for a battery replacement. To be clear, the battery itself had enough charge to last an entire walk, however, because the player was so expensive I wanted to replace the battery while Sony still made replacement parts for it. That way I could pull another five years out of it, and by then who knows where I'd be? But getting the battery replaced proved extraordinarily difficult.

Even though I obtained a replacement battery and backcover, every repair shop I contaced turned me down because it was a solder job. At one point I even sent the player across the United States to a company that said they could repair anything... and they refused the repair saying they couldn't find a way to replace the battery. But here's the kicker... I had the replacement battery and the service manual! The manual literally say "Here's how to take this apart, replace the battery, and put it back together". I was so utterly confused when companies kept turning down the repair because, after years, I had read the manual so many times I kept telling myself "b-but this repair looks easy". So, after a walk this morning where my phone's Bluetooth pairing failed so I had to whip out the ye-old Walkman again, I said to myself today's the day—I'll replace this battery myself.

0 Figure 1 The new battery and wires soldered into the main board.
It was quite difficult to get he soldering on those battery wires done. That, and the final product is a bit of a mess. But it works! By god it works! I don't believe it even myself!
Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra

And... it worked. The final product was a bit of mess, but it worked. The solder wasn't super clean. And the wires aren't quite braided as well as the original. But I did it! It's currently charging behind me right now, along with my Electrostatic IEMs! I know this may not seem too exciting to the lay person, but I really did have FIVE (5) repair shops turn me down for a job I did in under 15 minutes. I supposed they never really wanted to try.

Other Remarks

I know I said it before, but The Guermantes Way is going strong. I may have a dedicated post for it later this week, should time permit.

2024 Spring Season, Week 11
Okay. I was wrong. A lot of anime are setting up for some killer finales!
by Morganna Nikolaevna

In previous weeks I said I didn't see any anime shaping up for a strong finale, but Week 11 completely proved me wrong! Astro Note went off the rails, but in the best possible way. Monster #8 finally had the reveal, and man it was well worth the wait! Girls Band Cry had not one, but two amazing songs! And 7th Prince as expected had an amazing fight!

0 Figure 1 Astro Note, Episode 11
Takumi kisses Mira after recovering both her and the key from Shoin.

The second to last episode of Astro Note! What a strange journey this anime has been! It begins with Mira, Shoin's, and Naosuke's continued search for the key... which they find immediately which Takumi knocks a mailbox down. Once they find it, Mira tells the tenants of Astro Lodge that she'll be leaving in a week. As Aoi's depression continues (she literally didn't deserve this), the remaining tenants decide to throw a going around party for Mira. Mira learns to cook breakfast, but still nevertheless asks Takumi to cook for her on the last day. As Mira is packing, she finds one of the missing keys she presumed was stolen by a Hubby spy. She asks Shoin why he has the key, and he tells her she's coming with him, then ambushed by multiple Hubby spies.

Naosuke notices Mira is missing and asked Takumi where she is, and they both begin searching. Takumi notices Shoin leaving Astro Lodge with a large package, and realizes Mira is in it. Naosuke and Takumi both fight to rescue her, and Takumi tells Mira that he loves her, and begs her not to go back to Planet Wid. Mira replies that she loves him too, and they both kiss. When they do, a keyhole opens on the roof of Astro Lodge and Takumi climbs a ladder and inserts the key. Astro Lodge immediately transforms into a Planet Wid Starship, and Naosuke warns them that Hubby fleet is preparing to attack Earth. Astro Lodge isn't a lodge, it's the very spaceship Queen Adara used to travel to Earth. Planet Hub's emperor, Le Ost Veight, tells them he has Earth surrounded, and at long last he has achieved his goal.

0 Figure 2 Monster #8, Episode 10
Kafka transforms in front of everyone in order to save them.

Let's go. Monster #8 Episode 10. Is it the best show? No. Is it the most fun? Yes. In a flashback, Captain Mina recruits Hoshina due to his ability to defeat smaller more powerful Kaiju. Kaiju #10 has transformed into a Fortitude 9 monster. It's now so large Vice-Captain Hoshina isn't able to defeat it on his own. His blades can no longer pierce it's hide, and his combat suit begins to overheat. Despite his injuries, Hoshina vows to fight to the end. As #10 is about to kill Hoshina, Captain Mina arrives and begins to bombard #10. Shinomiya arrives, and begins to chop into the wounds left by Hoshina, and Mina shoots it in the back, directly directly striking its core, transforming it into a bomb. With its dying breath, #10 says it's a draw—they're all dead. Just then, Kafka transforms in front of everyone—he says everyone else risked their lives in this fight, and so too will he. He strikes the bomb causing it to detonate high in the atmosphere. It's explosion is still powerful enough to destroy much of the buildings on the ground. Afterwards, Captain Mina takes Kafka into custody.

0 Figure 3 Girls Band Cry, Episode 11
A fast cut of Rupa, Subaru, Tomo, and Momoka during their set at BAYCAMP.

Episode 11 of Girls Band Cry begins with even more rehearsing for the upcoming festival, BAYCAMP. After another band cancels, they learn they're playing on the second day, so they'll have a bigger audience. They're playing on the small stage (Diamond Dust is on the big stage). That evening, Subaru grows concerned because she still hasn't told anyone about the band, and she still doubts her parents will approve. The next day the show up to BAYCAMP early. Mine and a new girl, Kyoko, drop by their dressing room and encourage them. Subaru tells Nina she finally told her grandmother about the band. They drop by the main stage and watch Diamond Dust perform (it's good). Nina vows to steal their fans—every last one. After a sound check, a light rain begins to fall and Togenashi Togeari begins their set (Nina's lyrics are cringe, like expected), and the audience loves it.

0 Figure 4 I Was Reincarnated as the 7th Prince so [..] Magical Ability, Episode 11
Lloyd fighting against Jade.

After how grade Episode 10 was, I went in to Episode 11 of I Was Reincarnated as the 7th Prince so I Can Take My Time Perfecting My Magical Ability with very high expectations. The pre-opening scene is Guisarme talking to Jade shortly before his death, with Jade telling him he's going to lose. After the opening, the fight between Jade and Lloyd continues, with Lloyd beginning to go on offense. He realizes his attacks, while string, require direct line of sight, and with this knowledge he's able to land several weak strikes with mirror images of himself. When Jade attacks all mirror images of Lloyd simultaneously, Lloyd attempts to steal Jade's teleportation spell, and realizes all his attacks are just more advanced moves of the other members of the Assassin's Guild. As such, Lloyd is able to directly strike Jade as he teleports not with magic, but with his Qi techniques. Desperate to survive, Jade summons a "Mortal Dark Sphere", a spell that will pierce any of Lloyd's defenses, and the credits roll.

0 Figure 5 Jellyfish Can't Swim in the Night, Episode 11
Jellyfish Can't Swim in the Night, Episode 11

Episode 11 of Jellyfish Can't Swim in the Night. A Kiui episode. It starts with someone in Kiui's livestream typing out her real name: Kiui Watase. Mei's emotional breakdown and terrible singing has garnered 2.2 million views. Yoru presents her art to Yukine, but Yukine tells her drawings aren't good enough to publish. She gives Yoru a list of changes, but Yoru feels if she makes all the changes it will no longer be her art anymore. She asks Kiui to source the original art of jellyfish mural to see if she ever really liked her own art. Kano still lacks motivation to sing, and Mei tells her she can't just follow the notes—she has to craft her own message. Meanwhile, Kiui is doxxed by former her classmates; they tie her online personality "Nox" to her in real life, and begin to harass her. Kiui decides she can't run from her past anymore, and she and Yoru go to an arcade she used to frequently visit. Some students approach Yoru and speak negatively about Kiui. Kiui confronts them, explaining how horrible it feels to be ridiculed for what she enjoys. At the end of the episode, Kano realizes she wants to sing for her mother and begins to rewrite the lyrics. Yoru presents completely new art to Yukine, and she accepts it. She then asks if JELEE can perform at Sundoll's event, too.

0 Figure 6 An Archdemon's Dilemma: How to Love Your Elf Bride, Episode 12
Zagan dances with Nephy for the first time.

Is this the first finale of the season? I think it is! The finale of An Archdemon's Dilemma: How to Love Your Elf Bride, Episode 12! It starts with For writing in her diary about how she's happy to be staying with Zagan and Nephy. Raphael is now staying with them as well. After the opening, Zagan, Nephy, and For drop by Manuela's store where they buy an old broken phonograph. Back at Zagan's castle, Chastille and Barbatos arrive for lunch. Barbatos warns Zagan that Chastille is so clumsy she's going to die. By dinner, Zagan has fixed the phonograph, but it breaks down during the meal. Barbatos eats the soup Chastille made, and it knocks him out. After dinner, while Zagan repairs the phonograph again and. as it plays, asks Nephy to dance together. The next day, Zagan brings the phonograph to town and children dance to it as it plays.

0 Figure 7 The Banished Former Hero Lives as He Pleases, Episode 12
The final end card for Dekisoko.

Well. Here we are. The finale of The Banished Former Hero Lives as He Pleases! Episode 12 starts with Henriette questioning Curtis, who explains he wants to become the rightful Emperor, but Henriette refuses to partake in his plot. As Alan's party leaves the empire, they all express some consternation regarding Alan's decision to leave Henriette on her own. While in her cell, Henriette reflects on how she guided Alan through past lives, but it never changed the ending: he always died a hero. She nevertheless refuses to corporate with Curtis, despite him threatening to execute her, Alan, and burn down the Elven Forest.

Lise tells Alan they need to rescue Henriette, but Alan still hesitates, explaining she doesn't want to be rescued. Frustrated, Curtis decides to kill Henriette to "maker he mine forever", and just then Alan and Celia appear to save her. Using borrowed power from a demon, he tries to fight Alan but loses. Alan explains Curtis doesn't want to be Emperor, he only wants Henriette, and his actions now are only hurting the one he loves. As he breaks down crying, Henriette comforts him like she did as a child, but he again harnesses his demonic power to try to kill Alan. Lizette also appears to fight, and in the end Curtis is defeated. In a dreamlike scene thereafter, Curtis explains that, if he had more power, Henriette would have noticed him. Henriette thanks Alan for saving her, and they all flee the capital. Henriette tells Alan she's not just hers, but everyone's hero.

0 Figure 8 THE NEW GATE, Episode 10
Shin duels Princess Rionne.

Episode 10 of THE NEW GATE begins with the duel between Shin and Princess Rionne. The teleport to an arena, far away from other humans, where they're able to fight with their full strength. When they teleport back to the castle, they find nearby guards incapacitated and Cardinal Greril, who has been afflicted by Charm and Confusion, teleports the Princess and Shin to the Holy Land of Calkia. Shin telepathically contacts Schnee and explains the situation—he asks Schnee to handle the situation back at the palace, and to meet up with him in Valmer. Schnee warns Tiera they're dealing with a powerful demon and, after casting an invisibility spell, they both infiltrate the palace and speak with the Cardinal, who has no recollection of what happened. The demon appears and tells Schnee the age of humans will soon end now that her master, Shin, has departed. Schnee tells the demon that high-humans have returned then proceeds to decapatate it. Afterwards, Schnee meets with the King and Queen, explains the situation, then departs for Valmer.

0 Figure 9 The Train to the End of the World, Episode 11
All of the girls, plus the Zombie Queen, looking for the 7G button in Ikebukuro.

Episode 11 of The Train to the End of the World begins with the girl's arriving at high speed and crashing into the Ikebukuro train platform. Pochi detects Yoka's scent and they begin to follow him. After the opening, as Yoka awakes for breakfast, the girls arrive and find Yoka, but Yoka seems to have forgotten them and their memories. More guards arrive and they're forced to flee by train. The girls receive a message from Makota-sensei and Zenjiro that if they find the 7G button and push it again, everything should return to normal. As they discuss their plans, the Zombie Queen Kurokin arrives and tells them she believes she knows where the button is, and wants to provide help. They begin searching its last known location, and Pontaro suspects there's a leak. They find the button in the center of a fountain, as guards and Pochi (guard) arrive to stop them. The girls push the 7G button, but nothing happens. The episode ends with Yoka leaving Ikebukuro by train.

0 Figure 10 Wonderful Pretty Cure!, Episode 19
Mayu after she transforms into Cure Lillian.

Episode 19 of Wonderful Pretty Cure! begins with Iroha and Satoru continuing their search for the hamster Garugaru. While underground the hamster, wounded by Cure Nyammy, hears a voice that allows it to grow in power. Meanwhile, Mayu thinks Yuki hates her and Yuki watches Mayu from afar following their argument the previous day. The hamster Garugaru reappears, but it immediately runs away from Friendly and Wonderful. Instead, it flees and tries to fight Cure Nyammy, and when Friendly and Wonderful arrive it shrinks all three of them down to the size of small insects, making it impossible to fight. Mayu arrives and rescues Yuki, but she (and Yuki) get cornered by the Garugaru. She vows to protect Yuki no matter what, and The Mirror Stone grants her her wish: she turns into Cure Lillian. In the ensuing fight, the Garugaru gets injured and Lillian is able to heal it and send it back to Niko Garden. Afterwards, Mayu and Yuki both apologize and say they want to be with each other.

0 Figure 11 A Salad Bowl of Eccentrics, Episode 11
Sara yelling at Livia for her "too realistic" doll.

Despite /a/'s high praise for A Salad Bowl of Eccentrics, I must say I myself find it less than interesting (although it's still better than Sasaki). Episode 11 starts with Christmas in Gifu! Livia shows up to deliver a Christmas present, a doll/figure of herself, to Sara. Sara, however, is disturbed by how real it is and refuses to accept it. On Sara's last day of Winter Break, Sosuke takes her to Aqua Toto Gifu (an aquarium), and afterwards to a Sushi place. Meanwhile, Noa and Puriketsu argue over lyrics to the song their trying to make. Brenda continues to learn cooking to (try to) seduce Sosuke, and decides to learn how to make chocolate. A man arrives at Sosuke's agency looking for Livia, Akira Suzukiri, a writer, and formerly the homeless man who Livia lived with when she first arrived in Gifu. Akira was wrote about about Livia, and is now looking for her. He finds her playing guitar under the bridge where they first met. After learning he's a writer, Livia asks him to help him write lyrics for her band. He agrees, and the episode ends with Noa and Puriketsu praising his lyrics.

0 Figure 12 Mysterious Disappearances, Episode 10
Yorumun kisses Hanamura before departing.

Episode 9 of Mysterious Disappearances, the Nodoka vtuber arc, was pretty good. So I went into Episode 10 with slightly above average expectations. It begins with Ren, Oto, and Sumireko visiting Nodoka in the hospital. Ren tells Nodoka that the vtuber Yorumun is a curiosity that's broken free and needs to be stopped, but she ignores them and tells them all to go away. Uname-sensei arrives, and introduces Hanamura Mikamo, the original voice and personality of Yorumun. Hanamura explains that, as a child, she lost her ability to walk, but she found joy in being the vtuber Yorumun. However, now that her Yorumun personality has dissociated from her, she asks Ren and Sumireko for help. Ren tells Mikamo to gather her fans with an empty livestream. When she does, Yorumun appears in begins to drown everyone in the room. Uname-sensei is able to save them, and Mikamo begins a graduation ceremony for her Yorumun avatar. She along with all her fans thank her for helping them, and Yorumun sings herself off. Ren tells Mikamo that the one Yorumun wanted to most encourage was her.

0 Figure 13 Gods' Games We Play, Episode 11
Uroboros arrives in Luceimia's Labyrinth.

Episode 11 of Gods' Games We Play continue Fay (and team's) "game" through the labyrinth. They are told they can conquer Luceimia's Labyrinth by descending to the deepest depths and defeating the final boss. Eventually, they encounter another team trapped in the labyrinth and construct a key to enter another phase of the labyrinth, where Fay and Leshea summon a raid boss by mistake and immediately wipe the entire party. After multiple attempts, they continue to wipe against the same boss, and they realize they can counter its first attack using umbrellas, and they realize it receives damage from its own attacks, and are soon able to defeat it. Upon defeating it, Nel accidentally rings a bell that instantly receives it. Just then, Uroboros arrives and one-shots the revived boss. She then asks why they never came to play again.

0 Figure 14 Chillin' in Another World with Level 2 Super Cheat Powers, Episode 10
Ghozal asking Flio and company if he can stay in their house.

I must admit Chillin' in Another World with Level 2 Super Cheat Powers has lost some of its initial charm as the show has progressed. A lot of the novelty of the ridiculous plot, if there ever was any, has by Episode 10 completely worn off. We begin with Ghozal speaking with Flio and Rys asking for permission to live in his home for the time being following his brother's (Sir Yuigarde) insurrection. Instead of fighting his brother, he simply hands him the throne and departs. The other girls are okay with him staying, but Balirossa isn't and, as a consequence, feels left out. She tells Flio she can't live under the same roof as a demon that killed thousands of her fellow knights. Rys explains that she, too, was once part of The Dark Army, and now they're friends. The next day, Balirossa tells Ghozal if he harms any human, she'll make him pay. The episode ends with the false-Hero and his mistress fleeing demonic captivity with items stole from the demon's treasury.

0 Figure 15 Mission: Yozakura Family, Episode 10
Kyoichiro drinking the tea Taiyo worked so hard to obtain.

After the mildly okay Episode 9, I went into Mission: Yozakura Family Episode 10 with slightly above average expectations. It starts with a celebratory "Hinagiku Hot Pot" party in honor of a successful mission. Taiyo debates opening a package Kurogao gave him containing information about his family, ultimately deciding to open it and finds a marble containing laser etched information within it. Back at home, Taiyo learns Ayaka is now their live-in maid, who he later rescues from one of the many traps in the Yozakura family's mansion. The next day while Taiyo and Mutsumi are walking the family dog, a child approaches them with an IED and detonates it. The family dog, Goliath, is able to trace the scent of the explosive and quickly defeats the would-be assassin who created it. Back at the mansion, Ayaka accuses Taiyo of cheating because he's been meeting in secret with Momiji Akikaze, a women working for Hinagiku, to attempt to obtain Kyoichiro's favorite tea.

0 Figure 16 The Many Sides of Voice Actor Radio, Episode 10
All of the seiyuus taking a selfie backstage after their live event.

Inshallah, praise be to Ganesha, why are we here again? Episode 10 of The Many Sides of Voice Actor Radio begins with a show followed by a fan meet-and-greet. Prior to the event Yumiko tries to be friendly with fellow voice actress Mekuru, but she rejects her. At the end of the event, Sakuranamiki is crowned the winner, and she uses the winnings to treat everyone else to dinner. At dinner, Yumiko explains she's struggling with Phantom, and Sakuranamiki and Mekuru tell her she should consider asking Chika for advice. At the end of the episode, the director of Phantom hands her a script and tells her to prepare for the next episode.

0 Figure 17 Spice & Wolf, Episode 11
Lawrence, Holo, and Nora depart on their gold smuggling operation.

I'm here again. Episode 11 of Spice & Wolf. The continuation of the Nora Lawrence Holo gold smuggling plot. They have a representative from the trading company with them as the enter the forest, which I don't recall from the novel at all. However, it's possible my memory is bad—it's been many years since I've read the book. I will say, however, the tension and fear in the novels is completely absent from the 2024 anime remake. Their first night in the forest, Holo and Nora both detect wolves but Nora is able to prevent them from approaching the camp by sounding a horn. She tells them the wolves in this forest don't howl. Instead, they follow and observe the entire time. The next morning they arrive at Lamtra and the trading representative goes in to negotiate, and that evening he leaves leaves town with the gold. The plan has slightly shifted. Instead, they gold is small nuggets that will be fed to the sheep.

As they travel back through the forest, they are surrounded by wolves. Holo warns Lawrence as the worsens they wolves will eventually catch them. A large wolf (transformed Holo size) howls and Holo tells Lawrence they're after her. Lawrence and Holo tell Nora and the tradesmen to go ahead without them. They'll meet them later outside the forest. Holo departs alone to speak to the Wolf, and Lawrence departs too. That evening, several people arrive to rescue Lawrence, and inquire about his companion, who he explains is missing. They then tie him up and leave him for the wolves, then begin searching for Nora, who they plan to kill due to her "pagan magic". The episode ends with Lawrence tied up alone lying face down in the mud as the rain continues to fall.

0 Figure 18 WIND BREAKER, Episode 11
Bofurin students stepping outside to handle more thugs.

Episode 11 of WIND BREAKER begins with Sakura and friends returning to school as starts for defeating Shishitoren. As a reward, one of their classmates, Tsugeura, treats them to lunch at one of his favorite restaurants. While there, he asks to fight Sakura just as another classmate, Kiryu, walks in with his girlfriend. Sakura is jealous that he has a girlfriend. Kiryu's girlfriend gets scared of the other Bofurin students and leaves before ordering. Outside, a group of thugs jumps Kiryu and the girl he's with (who is not actually his girlfriend, but instead some random girl he picked up after she was being harassed by thugs), and a fight breaks out. Sakura, Kiryu, and Tsugeura work together to defeat all the delinquents, and afterwards Tsugeura teaches Sakura the Bofurin motto. They all give Sakura their contact info, and so too does Kotoha later that day. Back at school, some upperclassmen arrive and ask them to determine who the class captain will be. Suo "volunteers" Sakura.

0 Figure 19 Unnamed Memory, Episode 10
Tinasha waving at a crowd before departing with Oscar.

Here we are again with another Tinasha Tuesday—Episode 10 of Unnamed Memory began with Oscar asking Tinasha when their wedding should be, but she hesitates and explains she's perfectly fine with not getting married and just... hanging around. Tinasha tells Oscar that if they have a daughter, it's very likely she'll be a powerful witch. He himself as latent magical power that has been sealed away, perhaps by his own mother. That evening Tinasha and Oscar sense they're being watched. Later, Leonora, "The Witch Who Cannot Be Summoned" is informed that Tinasha may be interested in a man (Oscar), and believes she can kill her in her weakened state. A few weeks later at a ball, Travis, a high demon, approaches Tinasha and asks if Oscar is her lover. Another woman approaches Tinasha and tells her she should have children with Oscar, regardless of the risk of them being born a Witch. That night demons break into the castle, but the culprits who summoned them escape. Tinasha tells Oscar that the Witch Leonora is likely responsible.

0 Figure 20 Studio Apartment, Good Lighting, Angel Included, Episode 12
Shintaro plus all the other girls attempting to summon the devil.

Inshallah, praise be to Ganesha, we're finally done with Studio Apartment, Good Lighting, Angel Included. Shintaro was easily the worst harem MC I've seen in a while, and I don't ever want to see him again after Episode 12. We begin with Lilishka waking everyone else up in the middle of the night to tell him they need to prepare a devil summoning. The summoning temporarily summons Shiu, who disappears seconds later. Afterwards, they light off some fireworks which everyone loves (especially Towa). After summer break, Shintaro and Towa go to Skytree, and that evening Towa picks up Shintaro and flies him above Tokyo at night. While they fly above Tokyo, Towa tells Shintaro she'd like to continue spending time with him.

Other Remarks

Much to my surprise, The Guermantes Way actually got good? The narrator decided to practically stalk Madame de Guermantes every morning, and is now finally visiting Saint-Loup! I started setting up a camera system around my house, too. I can't figure out how to set up the one at the front door, but I have all summer to figure it out, I suppose.

I've been trying to learn the piano!
After years, we finally started. And it's really fun! We'll see where we are this time next year!
by Morganna Nikolaevna

I've had two outstanding "talents" I've wanted to acquire in my life. Talents which, hitherto, seemed impossible. The first was getting really good at calligraphy. When I imagined modern Morganna that was one of the skills she had, and so too it was as I skill I wished to acquire. And, after a few failed starts, I finally managed to learn it! The second talent, skill, whatever you want to call it, was learning to play the piano. For years I've always enjoyed hearing piano renditions of popular songs I like, but I never bothered to begin learning how to play it. It always got put off to a "better" time. But, again, after imaging modern Morganna with such a skill two to three years ago, coupled with Girls Band Cry this season (thanks Tomo-chan), I finally decided to get started on it about a month ago.

0 Figure 1 A view of my piano setup from upstairs.
I bought this piano two years ago in what was, at the time, an expensive house decoration (it's next to the pool table, which I never play). I bought this specific one because it was self-playing, but this was a feature I ultimately rarely used as well.
Leica M11 / Noctilux-M 50mm f/0.95 ASPH — ISO 200 f/1.0 1/60s.

I actually bought a self-playing piano about two years ago when I bought the house I live in now. I sort of regret buying a self-playing one in retrospect now that I'm trying to learn it myself, however, perhaps I shouldn't lament the decision too much given that I would not have bought a piano at all back then were it not for the self-playing feature. To that end, I would not even be able to learn it now had I not bought this specific one, so if that's the "push" it took to start learning then all's well that ends well, as it were.

0 Figure 2 What I see when I'm sitting in front of the piano.
My setup involves the beginner piano book, a tablet (where I can watch videos, perhaps), and a laptop (on the right, out of frame), along with a digital tuner which as been far more help that I would have first expected. Not because it helps me tune the piano (I have a professional do that), but because it helps me find the keys if I'm lost!
Leica M11 / Noctilux-M 50mm f/0.95 ASPH — ISO 1600 f/5.6 1/750s.

My process of learning right now involves going through the lessons in Adult Piano Adventures , a book I bought off Amazon, while also spending some free time in the evening on other compositions I enjoy (such as I See The Light, from Tangled, and right now The Promise of the World, from How's Moving Castle). I'm also working through a book on how to read sheet music which, while it has little effect on improving my actual piano playing, will, I hope, but valuable in the long run such that when I encounter more complex pieces I'll at the very least understand all the notation, even if I can't actually play everything yet.

Other Remarks

So far The Guermantes' Way has been, in my opinion, much weaker than Within A Budding Grove. The first 65 or so pages were fairly confusing. Last night, after the opera, I started to feel like I finally partially understood the plot—the narrator is trying to get the attention of the Guermantes by quite literally camping out on the street outside their house in the morning (a bit weird, I must say).

2024 Spring Season, Week 10
Two weeks left this season? It's hard to believe!
by Morganna Nikolaevna

The stand out this week was definitely the 7th Prince. That entire episode was amazing (Sylpha a CUTE and COOL). I dropped Reincarnated Aristocrat despite it being so late into the season. I just can't finish it. The show is terrible. Oh, and there won't be any Whisper Me a Love Song for a while, unfortunately. Major production issues, apparently, have delayed the final episodes (it's Nier all over again!).

0 Figure 1 I Was Reincarnated as the 7th Prince so [..] Magical Ability, Episode 10
Sylpha (CUTE and COOL) drawing Demonbane.

I go into Episode 10 I Was Reincarnated as the 7th Prince so I Can Take My Time Perfecting My Magical Ability with high expectations given how fast-paced the previous fight scene was. If commentators on /a/ are to be believed, this fight scene will actually be quite long, so we'll see. Anyways, the opener is Sylpha training and realizing she can't fight at full strength without destroying her sword. After the opening, Sylpha interrogating members of the Assassin's Guild regarding the whereabouts of Lloyd, but have to deal with a horde of demons first. Sylpha is ambushed by an 8th class demon who specializes in sword fighting, and the Assassin's Guild joins to assist.

Due to Sylpha's skill, the demon decides to try to steal her body. Sylpha is forced to draw Lloyd specifically made for her: Demonbane. It has no special spells or attributes. Instead, it's designed not to break, allowing Sylpha to fight at full power. When the demon attacks, Sylpha is able to strike it down in a single strike.

0 Figure 2 Girls Band Cry, Episode 10
Nina hugging her father shortly before returning to Tokyo to play in her band.

Here we are. Episode 10 of the world famous machine translated anime Girls Band Cry. It starts with the girls being approached by a talent agent from "Golden Archer" who asks to sign them. The agent explains she's a former fan of Diamond Dust, but dislikes the direction the band took and wants to continue to hear Momoka's compositions. Regardless, Momoka tasks Nina with writing new lyrics, but she struggles to come up with lyrics that are sufficiently meaningful and creative. Nina's mom and dad show up at her work and apartment, and she hides in Subaru's apartment to avoid them. The next day, when Nina sneaks back to her apartment, she finds they changed the locks. Rupa, however, warns Nina that she should stop ignoring her family and speak to them, and hands her a train ticket to go and visit them. Momoka tells her the same: she should talk to them.

She takes a train back home and tells her parents she's in a band that's been scouted by a talent agency. Her father tells her she has to listen to her parents, and the next day her father takes her back to her old school. The principal apologizes for their "flawed" investigation, but explains it wouldn't be accurate to call what happened to her "bullying". That evening, she tells her older sister that when she was in school she was so miserable she wanted to end her life, and music was the only thing that kept her going. Her older sister tells her her parents really love her, and the next morning as she's leaving she apologizes to her father for not listening, and asks him to cut back on the smoking. In tears, she hugs her father and leaves. When she gets back, Momoka, Subaru, Rupa, and Tomo all great her outside the station.

0 Figure 3 Jellyfish Can't Swim in the Night, Episode 10
Mei telling the livestream that she doesn't want JELEE to disband.

Episode 10 of Jellyfish Can't Swim in the Night starts with Kano taking a "break" from JELEE—she explains she lost her reason to sing. Yoru's identity is also leaked online. Mei runs into Mero, who kisses her, and then goes on to explain that she sings for Yukine, just like Kano. Kano sang only to get her mother's attention. Kano attends school, but her gossip from her peers force her to leave early. On her way home, she bumps into fans talking about how much they like JELEE's singing. Kiui asks Yoru to call Kano, but she declines. When Kano arrives home, she finds Mei waiting for her. Kano tells Mei she realized that she, like her mother, was trying to use Yoru for her own gain. She tells her it's best of JELEE disband. During a planned livestream, Kiui announces that JELEE will be disbanding. As she begins to play JELEE's final song, Mei takes the microphone and tells the world she doesn't want to disband, and begins singing the lyrics Kano should be singing herself. Kano hears Mei's terrible singing, and decides she wants to sing again.

0 Figure 4 Monster #8, Episode 9
Shinomiya with her custom made axe, chopping through Wyverns.

Episode 9 of Monster #8 immediately begins with the aerial Kaiju attack that started at the end of Episode 8 (Kafka notices it as he's on the roof). The Kaijuu are directly attacking the Defense Force's base. Multiple Honju class enemies land simultaneously all around the base. Captain Mina Ashiro is away, so Vice-Captain Hoshina is the new actual, and immediately calls all guards and off-duty officers to base to defend. Kafka tells Hoshina wyvern types are normally alone, but these are attacking in groups—there must be a leader somewhere. Just them, Hoshina spots the leader and prepares to engage. It can speak, and it tells him he's the prey, and immediately attacks him. Kafka orders remaining officers to attack the wyverns in the back: their scales are thinner and can be defeated with the caliber of rifle rounds they have available. This proves difficult, however, because the Kaiju are working together and defending their backs.

Shinomiya runs in and smashes directly through their front armor (based) with a custom weapon (an axe) specifically for her. Together with Reno, they're able to defeat several more wyverns. Hoshina is able to lure the Kaiju unto the training area where he can unleash his full combat power. Meanwhile, Kafka partially transforms to save several officers who are in danger. As additional senior officers arrive to assist, they begin to push the Kaiju back. However, the Kaiju Hoshina is fighting can quickly regenerate, and it grows into a fortitude 9.0 as the episode ends.

0 Figure 5 Mysterious Disappearances, Episode 9
Nodoka meeting with vtuber Yorumun who suddenly appears in her room.

Episode 9 of Mysterious Disappearances starts with Oto, Nodoka, and friends going to a karaoke bar to celebrate their test performance. Afterwards, Nodoka drops by the hospital to tell her father about her test grades (he's the chairman of the hospital), but he's unavailable. At home, she meets with Kotaka-sensei who immediately begins tutoring her, despite her already strong test performance. Everyone hopes Nodoka will one day be able to take over running Takamagahara Hospital, where her father works. Miserable, Nodoka turns to watching vtubers for fun. She tells the vtuber her dream is to become and idol, but her parents won't let her. The next day at school, Nodoka tells Uname-sensei of her dreams of becoming an idol. Nodoka later learns that her favorite vtuber, Yorumun, is retiring, sending her into despair.

That evening, the "retired" vtuber appears on her tablet, telling her fans everything is okay. Her room begins to fill with water, and Yorumun appears in person to tell Nodoka she's rooting for her. Nodoka's grades continue to improve at school, and every evening Yorumun appears in Nodoka's room to help her achieve her dreams of becoming an idol. Oto visits Nodoka's apartment and Nodoka collapses from exhaustion. So too do many other of Yorumun's fans. Nodoka explains the situation to Ren and Sumireko, and Ren tells Oto he can save Nodoka.

0 Figure 6 Astro Note, Episode 10
Shoin serves breakfast to the tenants of Astro Lodge.

Episode 10 of Astro Note starts with Mira introducing Astro Lodge's new resident: Shoin Ginger Aoi introduces herself to him, and later he tells Naosuke he's failing to protect Mira and to find the key. Teruko has a concert coming up, and Takumi invites Mira to the concert, and to an aquarium date beforehand. Aoi asks Mira about where the previous resident of Room 8 went, and Mira tells her the room was formerly vacant. The next morning Teruko is attacked by a Hubby spy, spraining her ankle—nevertheless, Teruko decides to perform with her injury. Shoin, Mira, and Naosuke continue to dig in the yard around Astro Lodge for the key, and Mira cancels the aquarium deito, but still plans to go to the concert.

The next morning, Shoin asks Takumi to teach him how to make breakfast—which everyone loves. Shoin explains he wants to learn how to cook so he can make food for Mira when she (and he) go back to Planet Wid. Meanwhile, Teruko laments her lack of money and fans—surrounded by idols who are younger than her. And, despite a strong performance, she wonders if she should continue being an idol. After hearing her few cheering fans, however, she regains her resolve and continues to try. The next morning, Mira joins Takumi and Shoin and asks to learn how to cook, too. Unlike Shoin, however, she is not as successful. After breakfast, Takumi is attacked by another Hubby spy. While examining old pictures of Astro Lodge, they find an image of the key.

0 Figure 7 An Archdemon's Dilemma: How to Love Your Elf Bride, Episode 11
Raphael killing Clavwell, the head priest who poisoned Chastille.

At the start of Episode 11 of An Archdemon's Dilemma: How to Love Your Elf Bride Raphael tells For he didn't kill her father, The Dragon Sage Orobas. Instead, he sought Orobas's help in fighting a great demon, but fell in the ensuing battle. The golem they defeated at the end of Episode 10 begins to get up and move, and Raphael warns everyone that it's no golem—instead, it's the same demon that he and Orobas tried to defeat many years ago. Chastille clears a path for Zagan, who is able to defeat it with a new spell designed to counter both sacred sword wielders and demons alike. Afterwards, Zagan asks Raphael why he killed so my sorcerers, and he explained that they always attacked first (due to his imposing size and demeanor). He goes on to tell For her father was a grand dragon, and fighting along side him was the proudest moment of his life.

Back at the Church, the head priest, Clavwell, is sent into a rage that Chastille still isn't dead, and is confused that his poison didn't work. Raphael approaches him and cuts him his hand has he tries to poison him. Raphael kills him, and tells him he'll soon meet him in the afterlife. Back at Zagan's castle, Chastille explains that it's time for her to leave, and For tells her to she can visit whenever she likes. Raphael appears and tells Chastille he's now Zagan's butler (For refused to kill him for revenge, and instead said he should serve her, Zagan, and Nephy). Barbatos leaves to follow Chastille, and Zagan apologizes for leaving Nephy behind last time.

0 Figure 8 THE NEW GATE, Episode 10
Shin speaking with Schnee and Tiera, who are both in disguise.

I'm not even sure where THE NEW GATE is going to go after this given that Episode 9 had a pretty definitive ending to a character arc. Anyways, Episode 10 starts with Schnee and Tiera disguising themselves as they go see Schweid, another of Shin's former support characters. Upon meeting Schweid, he informs him of Girart's passing, and Shin hands him his old weapon, Nagizuki. The party drops by the Adventurer's Guild and picks up a quest for... slaying goblins? Upon returning, Shin receives a message from Barlux, the Guild Master of the local branch, who summons him to the palace as soon as possible. Shin teleports back to where The Moon Sanctum formerly was and speaks with the Guild Master. He's informed about the sword that flew into the palace which landed in the bedroom of Bayrelicht, the second princess. They know he's responsible, and the princess would like to speak with him. Schnee tells him they may be trying to force him to marry the princess, and they all agree if this occurs they should reject the offer. The next day when Shin meets with Princess Bayrelicht she asks that he fight her. At the end of the episode, we see a weird cliffhanger where a cleric is attacked by a dark shadow.

0 Figure 9 Mission: Yozakura Family, Episode 9
Kuyoyuri hugging his deceased daughter after an IED below up his house.

Is Mission: Yozakura Family really going to be 24 episodes? I'm not sure I can' take even 4 more episodes. I really hope something starts to happen. I think it's the character designs that work against it, honestly. Anyways, Episode 9 begins with Taiyo being informed that the Deputy Prime Minister as been kidnapped and he's being held hostage—it's currently being live streamed from an unknown location. Kuyoyuri blows up the van (with Taiyo in it) and escapes. Taiyo drags himself and the driver from the wreckage, and Sui explains Kuyoyuri is actually a spy and his escaped was planned.

Kuyoyuri begins to interview the Deputy and takes off his disguise, revealing himself as Kurogao. Kurogao holds a gun to the Deputy's head, and Taiyo arrives and tells him to stop, but he's quickly defeated. Kurogao is familiar with all of Yozakura's secret techniques. In a flashback, Kurogao's daughter is killed by an IED placed in his apartment. It was designed to kill him now that he had lived out his usefulness as a spy. Sui arrives to back him up, and he tells Taiyo to detain Kurogao while he handles the other spies. Taiyo is able to use one of Sui's techniques in conjunction with Kyoichiro's steel wire to capture him. Out of respect, he hands him a piece of paper shortly before being shot in the neck by an unseen assassin. The note is a map where his daughter was laid to rest, and Taiyo goes there to pay his respects. There, he finds a small white box. That evening, he's welcomed back by all the members of the Yozakura family.

0 Figure 10 A Salad Bowl of Eccentrics, Episode 10
Brenda tries to convince Sosuke that he should marry her.

Ugh. I just don't like A Salad Bowl of Eccentrics. It is better than Sasaki-san, this is true, but it's not that much better, and the schizophrenic narrative structure alone, coupled with the weak character designs, make the whole series feel like a chore to watch. Episode 10 starts with Noa touching and feeling Livia's naked body in order to make a figure of her. Later, she takes the money Noa gave her and gambles it all away in a pachinko parlor.

Sosuke and Sara are giving a job to investigate Koki Aida, a 36-year-old salaryman. He tells Brenda that Sara is his biological daughter, and Tateyama tells Brenda that now is the time to try and marry him. A week later Sosuke returns with his findings, and Brenda asks if he needs a "mother figure" around. Sosuke replies he does, but that's of little use if he can't find any women willing to marry him, and leaves. Brenda decides to charm him with her personality, instead. She decides to learn how to cook meat and potatoes to give to Sosuke. The next day in the office, Brenda tries to give him meat and potatoes, but Yuna already gave him (and Sara) some last night.

0 Figure 11 Gods' Games We Play, Episode 10
Bookmaker resets Nel's losses back to zero.

I'm here by myself, yet again, with this week's episode of Gods' Games We Play. Episode 10 continues Fay's game against Bookmaker, who informs him he's only going to use one type of cheat in all three games they're about to play. If Fay can determine how she's cheating, he'll win. The first game is a coin flip, with Fay calling heads, but it coming up tails. In the next game, poker, Fay discards his entire hand (despite having a pair of aces), while Bookmaker draws a straight flush. In the final game, Old Maid, Fay draws a joker and loses. He then asks for one more game to not just determine the cheat, but to break through it. In the second round, Fay realizes that Bookmaker isn't cheating, but his friends are. Fay, Leshea, and Pearl are all using their abilities to ensure he loses, while Bookmaker watches.

Bookmaker accepts defeat and resets Nel's losses back to zero. Fay explains this was all according to plan, because now everyone on the teal has the same number of wins: 3. Together, they'll all reach 10 victories together. Afterwards, however, the Chief Secretary Miranda informs them 200 Apostles have gone missing on a labyrinth and they're assembling a team to rescue them. In this labyrinth, apostles are trapped unless they clear the labyrinth. Miranda tells them to enter the labyrinth and clear it. When the enter, Fay and Leshea pick a harder difficulty, and their team finds themselves teleported to a peaceful field. At the end of the episode, Uroboros approaches Bookmaker and asks where the humans she faced went.

0 Figure 12 Chillin' in Another World with Level 2 Super Cheat Powers, Episode 9
Princess Elizabeth apologizes to Flio for banishing him from the kingdom.

Episode 9 of Chillin' in Another World with Level 2 Super Cheat Powers starts with First Princess Elizabeth visiting Flio to apologize for banishing him when he was first summoned to this world, along with all the injustices the kingdom delivered upon him hitherto. The Princess informs Flio that many nearby towns will soon be destroyed when The Dark Army advances. The Princess plans to overthrow the King and succeed the throne. She asks for his assistance with both. That night, Flio tells Rys that, if they have a child one day, he'd like it to live in a world where Humans and Demons live in harmony. Meanwhile, the false hero (and his mistress) get captured by The Dark Army.

The next day The Dark Army begins to advance, and Flio puts up barriers to stop them. Fenrys also assists, on the condition no demon is killed in the process. Back at the castle, the Princess learns a Flio and Fenrys have forced multiple bands of The Dark Army to retreat. Ghozal learns that Yuigarde is staging an insurrection, and they plan to sacrifice the false hero and her mistress to ensure victory against Ghozal.

0 Figure 13 The Many Sides of Voice Actor Radio, Episode 9
Yumiko and Chika sing karaoke together after school.

Ugh. Why are we here again? I don't want to be here, not after the drama of Episode 8. Anyways, Episode 9 of The Many Sides of Voice Actor Radio starts with Yumiko telling her agent Kagasaki that the session didn't go very well and asks for feedback. Kagasaki explains she may be trying a bit too hard to act, making the entire thing come off as disingenuous. The next day at school, Yumiko, Chika, and several of their classmates go to a karaoke bar after school. Yumiko decides to sing one of Chika's songs, which pisses her off enough to cover one of Yumiko's songs afterwards. Late that evening, Chika gives Yumiko copies of the Phantom anime so she can become more familiar with the series, and Yumiko returns the favor by treating her to deserts.

After watching the series, Yumiko (along with her agent) go to the next recording session, which goes much better. The director tells her she's doing well, but she still needs to go "one tier higher". She asks to rerecord her lines from the last episode, and he agrees.

0 Figure 14 The Train to the End of the World, Episode 10
The girls meet Shizuru's father on the way to Ikebukuro.

I recently heard a rumor that The Train to the End of the World was originally supposed to be 24 episodes, not 12, and given how many stops they have left until Ikebukuro I'd say that sounds about right. Still, I don't think I'd want 24 episodes because the show is not particularly good. Anyways, Episode 10 starts with all the girls realizing the hermit's map was accurate. With it, they have a vague idea of what to expect in the remaining two stops before Ikebukuro. While traveling, they encounter Shizuru's father (as an animal) on the tracks, and they inform him everyone in Agano is doing well. He informs them that he saw Yoko in Shiinamachi. Zenjio sends them another message: the world will disappear if they can't stop 7G. He tells them to continue traveling to Ikebukuro, and he will find a solution by the time they arrive.

They continue on their journey, and the weather worsens as they arrive in Shiinamachi. Reimi warns them to continue straight through Shiinamachi without stopping given that their father was attacked, but they run into a large gap in the tracks and are forced to stop. While exploring Shiinamachi, they find it desolate and empty. They find a newspaper with photos of Yoka, calling her their queen. They encounter a group of beret-wearing manga artists who have been given orders to stop them from reaching Ikebukuro, and they use their artists powers to turn them into different art styles. Akari, however, is able to use the "power of the beret" to counter their attacks, and are quickly defeated. When they ask about Yoka, they tremble in fear and beg them not to do anything that will upset their Queen. Shortly thereafter, the path to Ikebukuro is restored.

0 Figure 15 WIND BREAKER, Episode 10
Bofurin team members return to their own turf after defeating Shishitoren.

There's not even threads on /a/ anymore for WIND BREAKER, which is a bit sad given that it's not terrible. To be honest, it's had stronger episodes than many other shows I'm still nevertheless trying to complete this season. Anyways, Episode 10 starts with Umemiya cheerfully telling everyone to order food for their after party, which they have on the roof. During their meal, Togame and Choji apologize to everyone, and Umemiya tells Sakura to determine the punishment. Confused, he tells Togame to become a "cool guy" and never to me "lame" again. Choji asks Umemiya why he wants to be on top, and he responds it's for moments like this: where everyone can eat together and have fun. After Bofurin departs, Choji and Togame agree to rebuild Shishitoren.

Back in their own turf, Sasaki apologizes for starting everything, and Kotoha welcomes them all back. Umemiya asks how Sakura's "conversation" (fight) with Togame was, and he responds he's not sure. Umemiya tells Sakura he can tell he's a good guy, and Sakura asks how he can be so quick to forgive. To forgive Shishitoren, to forgive him for showing up only to take his spot. Umemiya tells him if he keeps trying, he'll be able to take the top spot. Sugishita, filled with rage, tries to attack Sakura and Kotoha throws them out of her cafe.

0 Figure 16 Wonderful Pretty Cure!, Episode 18
Friendly and Wonderful (again) stop Cure Nyammy from executing a Garugaru.

Episode 18 of Wonderful Pretty Cure! starts with Yuki telling Iroha and Komugi not to associate with Mayu anymore. Later, Mayu becomes embarrassed at all the times she kissed Yuki now that she knows she's a human. After the opening, Yuki tells Mayu there's no need to worry—she'll protect her. She goes on to explain how she became a PreCure, and Mayu wonders if the Moon Stone played a role. The next day at school, Mayu avoids Iroha and Komugi, and they tell her while they may not fight together, they'd still like to remain friends. After school, another Garugaru hatches and Yuki immediately appears and takes her away while Iroha and Komugi go to fight it, but upon approaching it it quickly escapes.

They report to Mey Mey that the Garugaru is missing, and he'll be very difficult to find given that they're digging tunnels underground. It eventually tunnels near Mayu's house, and Yuki leaves to fight it, telling Mayu (again) not to get involved. Like always, she just starts beating the crap out of it when she finds it. Cure Friendly and Wonderful arrive and tell her not to hurt it, and it again it retreats. Yuki (again) tells Mayu not to get involved with Iroha and Komugi, and Mayu tells her it's not up to her to make that decision.

0 Figure 17 The Banished Former Hero Lives as He Pleases, Episode 11
Alan speaks to Henriette who is currently being held captive.

And we round out the end of Monday with Episode 11 of The Banished Former Hero Lives as He Pleases. It starts with Alan defeating Oswald, only to learn that he's case Explode on all his friends and all the townsfolk. Using a hitherto unseen ability in the anime, he stops time and quickly cuts the magical fuses connected to everyone. When he's about execute Oswald for his crimes, a Vice Captain of The Black Wolf Knights, Celia Bartolus, appears and asks him to stay his hand—instead, she will punish him herself. That evening the Knights leave, and Alan wonders what exactly they were after.

Henriette arrives at the capital and gets placed in confinement. Alan's party arrives too, but they can't get in without a travel permit. Curtis explains they can get in using a series of tunnels normally reserved for the royal family to escape in case of emergency. That night they begin sneaking through the tunnels and encounter Lizette, whose after Alan. Alan tells Mylene, Lise, and Noel to go on without him, and Lizette and Alan begin to duel. However, the tunnel they're in begins to collapse, and Curtis smiles. Alan, however, appears with the other safe and sound. Curtis, surprised Alan is alive, tells them all to rest for the night, but Alan teleports to meet Henriette. Henriette explains she's not at much risk given that the charges are false, and Alan teleports back. Curtis tells them to leave and do nothing to save Henriette, and Alan agrees.

0 Figure 18 Unnamed Memory, Episode 9
Oscar hugs Tinasha who is recovering from the poison she intentionally ingested to save him.

I don't even know what's happening in Unnamed Memory anymore. Episode 8 was pretty self-contained, so I had no idea what to expect going into Episode 9, which starts with Lucrezia asking Tinasha what she'll do now that her one year contract with Oscar is nearing an end. Other people in the castle oppose Tinasha marrying Oscar and becoming a queen because she's a witch. She offers to erase Oscar's memories of her and leave. Oscar tells her to marry him and stop being a witch. Just then, the castle's barrier is broken and monsters attack (lol what?) and Tinasha and Oscar go out to fight them. Oscar, however, is poisoned out by Aderayya and Tinasha halts the passage of time for him to stop the poison from spreading.

Tinasha plans to poison herself and create a blood serum to heal him. Lucrezia assists, and intentionally poisons her. In the next scene, Oscar wakes up and learns of the situation, but his memories have been erased. He sees a gift Tinasha left for her, and realizes parts of his memories for her are missing. He finds her (and Lucrezia) in a hidden part of the castle, still in pain from the poison she ingested to save him. Later, Tinasha wakes up and Lucrezia heals her wounds. Later, Tinasha acknowledges she's "fond" of him, while everyone tells her she loves him. She then asks Oscar if she's in love with him, and he responds she is.

0 Figure 19 Spice & Wolf, Episode 10
Lawrence explains the details of his gold smuggling deal to Nora.

Oh gosh. Why are we here. Another week with this incredibly boring Spice & Wolf remake. Episode 10 begins with poor Lawrence still begging for money. He informs Holo he's out of options, hands Holo what money his has left, and then tries to leave. Holo, however, stops him and explains it's her fault—she's responsible, and she'll find a way to help him. The next day Lawrence meets with the trading guild and informs them of a plan to smuggle gold using Nora and her sheep. He agrees. Later, Holo and Lawrence find Nora leaving Church and explain their plan. The pay is massive, more than enough for Nora to open up her tailoring store. If the travel to the pagan town of Lamtra they can pick up the gold and smuggle it back by hiding it on her sheep. Despite the risks, she accepts the job. That evening, Lawrence regrets pulling Nora into such a risky plot, but Holo says she's skilled and it will work.

0 Figure 20 Studio Apartment, Good Lighting, Angel Included, Episode 11
All the characters resting on the beach at the end of a long day.

Ugh. Please end it. Only 1 episode of Studio Apartment, Good Lighting, Angel Included after this one. We can do it. I believe. Episode 11 covers the Occult Research Club's summer camp. Tsurumi's parents take the club on a helicopter ride to their summer house near the beach (which is full of kappa maid servants who, of course, like Shintaro for whatever reason). After an obligatory beach fanservice sequence, there's also an obligatory hot spring sequence where Shintaro is forced to bath in a well outside because the house only has a female bath. Or, at least until late into the night where he walks naked on Tsurumi who's also in the bath at twelve at night while everyone else is asleep (I hate this show so much). Tsurumi explains a fortune teller told her to talk to men.

0 Figure 21 As a Reincarnated Aristocrat, I'll Use My Appraisal Skill [...] the World, Episode 9

Episode 9 of As a Reincarnated Aristocrat, I'll Use My Appraisal Skill to Rise in the World starts with Mazak completing the intel mission and informing Ars of the results. Anyways, they learn Mazak's intel isn't quite correct. What came next was 10-15 minutes of random garbage political intrigues that I and no one else in the entire world would ever care about. God damn this show went from mildly fun to truly terrible to truly terrible and absolutely incomprehensible. I can't even type what happened because it's all nonsense. That's it. I'm dropping the show. I know it's late into the season, but this was truly a terrible show and a terrible episode of a terrible series. Dropped at Episode 9. So long, and good night.

Other Remarks

I'm still practicing the piano every day. I've also started reading a book on how to read sheet music. Hopefully it helps with any confusing I have as I continue through the piano book! I'll post a bit more details later.

I ordered MORE cards from Bana Tarot!
These are simply the best designed Tarot cards I've ever seen!
by Morganna Nikolaevna

One of the first things I ordered now that summer has started was more cards from Bana Tarot. I had to wait until summer because, as I discussed a month ago, these EMS packages from Korea for whatever reason require a signature and I did not want to go to the local post office again three times to pick up a single package like I had to do last month. Now that summer has started, I'm at home and I can sign for the package (which I did) early yesterday afternoon.

0 Figure 1 The holographic "Korean Orientated" version of the tarot cards.
Shown here are some of the Major Arcana, with my personal favorite The Hierophant in the middle.
Leica M11 / Noctilux-M 50mm f/0.95 ASPH — ISO 800 f/0.95 1/2500s.

The cards themselves are gorgeous. I was originally looking for anime-style designs, but all of the anime ones were, well, bad. These ones have such designs but are significantly more "serious", in a sense. But they also have an extra factor that I love: they don't tell you the names of the cards on the bottom. Instead, you only get the pictures and you just have to know (i.e., memorize) the meanings. Well, actually the names of the cards are written on there... in Korean. But it's small and it'd be hard for anyone to read (including myself). I've already memorized the core tarot cards using the Rider–Waite designs. So, if time permits this summer, I plan to switch to reading through Bana's guidebook and memorizing hers.

0 Figure 2 A bookshelf with more goodies.
All of the other fan goodies I've bought. Tins, cards, stickers, etc. Many of these were also free! Bana just added them in for me!
Leica M11 / Noctilux-M 50mm f/0.95 ASPH — ISO 800 f/5.6 1/20s.

I also ordered a lot of fun little extras, like tins and pencil cases, along with other versions of the cards (e.g., a small deck, a plastic deck, etc.). Bana also always sends a bunch of extra stuff in every package, too! In this package I got tons of extra for Alice in Wonderland, along with extra guidebooks and post cards. There's so many extras, in fact, I'm actually tempted to place a third order some time this summer! What a deal!

Other Remarks

I "finished" I See The Light yesterday in the piano. I put "finished" in air quotes because It's more like 90%. I don't want to spend too much time on that song to grind out the remaining 10% when I could switch to learning another song for fun. Overall, though, I felt like it was very productive learning that song. I need to learn and play something else while going through the piano book because the piano book itself is a bit dry. Many of the melodies I've played recently have been woefully boring, to say the least. Next up, I think I'll try A Town with an Ocean View from Kiki's Delivery Service. To be honest, it may be too hard and I may have to switch to another song later. But I'll at least give it a shot today or tomorrow and go from there.

I also started reading The Guermantes Way and man, it's go a boring start so far. The discussion of the opera opening just hasn't been interesting. So far, I'd say the beginning is much weaker than Within a Budding Grove. I'll stick with it and continue, though. I have nothing else to read regardless.

2024 Spring Season, Week 9
It's the first week of summer break for me! I can finally relax after another school year!
by Morganna Nikolaevna

Another week of which, I would argue, moderately okay anime? I don't feel like there were any stellar standout episodes this week, although 7th Prince and Monster #8 were both pretty fun!

0 Figure 1 Girls Band Cry, Episode 9
Tomo-chan telling Nina-cute that she's bad at playing the guitar (rude!).

Here we are again. Another week of machine translated French-to-English subs of a 3DCG anime. Episode 9 of Girls Band Cry starts with Rupa asking Tomo about their bands compositions, and Tomo lies and says she believes they "do the job". The air conditioning in Nina's apartment breaks, and so too does the air conditioning in Rupa and Tomo's apartment. As a result, all three show up and Subaru's place to cool off. Momoka also drops by Subaru's place after work, and they all have a sleepover. Or, they sort of do. Subaru throws they out because they're too noisy. The next day Tomo and Rupa listen to Nina practice on the guitar Mine gave her. Tomo is tormented by flashbacks from her previous band which broke up because she was too nitpicky and critical of her other band members. As a consequence, she's hesitant to give any feedback to her current bandmates, even when they ask.

Eventually, however, Tomo snaps and tells Nina she'll never be good. Nina drops by Subaru's apartment again and explains that Tomo's words we demotivating. Subaru explains Tomo isn't really good with people, and it's probably better not to ask her advice. Tomo and Rupa arrive to pick up their snake, and Rupa explains how Tomo's demanding nature hurt their previous band. That evening, Rupa and Tomo go for a walk, and Tomo explains she's right: Nina isn't good at playing. While walking, they find Nina practicing alone. Rupa explains that Nina is dedicated and trying to get better, and Tomo again tells her she's bad. Later, at rehearsal, Tomo tells Momoka she finds the song they're playing boring.

0 Figure 2 Jellyfish Can't Swim in the Night, Episode 9
Yukine confronts Kano after she punched Mero in the face for slandering Rainbow Girls.

Episode 9 of Jellyfish Can't Swim in the Night starts with JELEE reaching their goal of 100k followers on Twitter. Afterwards, Yoru shares with Kiui her job offer: A Virtual Live Gig at Miyashita Park with Sunflower Dolls, and tells Kiui she's interested in the job, but doesn't know how to share it with Kano. She speaks with Mei about Kano's mom (Yukine), who shares that while she believes she's a talented business woman, she suspects she's behind efforts to smear other idol groups. That evening, Yoru tells Kano that her mother contacted her to commission artwork for a Sunflower Dolls event at the end of the year, upsetting Kano. That Saturday, Yoru meets with Yukine who explains the scope of the project, which is far behind her merit as an artist. Yoru asks why she'd be commissioned for such a large project, and Yukine explains that she saw her art at the Halloween gig they threw earlier and was inspired. Yukine tells her she has great talent.

In several flashbacks, we see Yukine praising Kano much the same way she praised Yoru. The other members of Sunflower Dolls, however, believe Kano received her position due nepotism, and treat her poorly. Regardless, they continue and eventually land a big gig a year later after a rival group ("Rainbow Girls") goes on hiatus after aggressive only rumors ruin their reputation. Kano learns that Mero, one of her group members, is behind the account that slandered Rainbow Girls and, remembering the pain she saw Rainbow Girls exhibit in their tearful apologizes, grabs Mero and punches her in the face. Yukine arrives then throws her out of the group. Back in the present, Yoru tells the other members of JELEE she took the job from Yukine and, as a result, she won't be able to finish all the work for JELEE's single by New Years. Kano explains that Yoru said she'd draw for her sake, not her mother's, and they both break down crying. That night, Kano cries herself to sleep, wondering why her Mom noticed Yoru instead of her.

0 Figure 3 Whisper Me a Love Song, Episode 8
Shiho, as a child, realizing she can never catch up to her friend Kyou.

Episode 8 of Whisper Me a Love Song, and perhaps the last episode for a while given that production has completely collapsed (ala Nier) begins with Shiho confronting Aki on her love for Yori, and demands she recognize her (Shiho's) superior musical talent. SSGirls make the cut, and so too does Shiho's band. Yori adds, however, that it looked like Shiho had more fun playing with SSGirls. She finds Shiho and asks why she quit the band, but she refuses to answer. Aki asks her if she'll answer if she can prove SSGirls is better than her band, Laureley, and she agrees. Later, Yori tells Himari of the upcoming band "showdown", and Himari is excited to hear about it, although she's not sure her to room for because her friend Momoka is also in Laureley.

The next day at school, Himari tells her friend Miki that she wants Yori, Aki, and Shiho to all be friends. That evening, Himari accidentally runs into Shiho as she's working as a waitress at a cafe. She explains she needs the supplemental income to support her desire to go into music professionally. Shiho explains that, as a child, she had a friend named Kyou who completely eclipsed her violin skills. And, despite nonstop practicing she could never match her skill and decided to give up. Instead, she decided to switch to playing guitar, an instrument Kyou always wanted to play but couldn't.

0 Figure 4 I Was Reincarnated as the 7th Prince so [..] Magical Ability, Episode 9
Lloyd's friends and family showing up to Jade's castle to back him up.

I don't know how to feel about I Was Reincarnated as the 7th Prince so I Can Take My Time Perfecting My Magical Ability, but it's not negative, so that's a plus. I feel like the entire show would still, as I've said numerous times before, be better if Lloyd was a girl. Alas, here we are at Episode 9 and he still is not.

We begin right where we left off, with Lloyd's lunar orbital strike on the demonically-possessed Jade. He then tells the Asassin's Guild to retreat while he finishes the job. Lloyd then kills all of the remaining demons in the castle. Jade appears, alive, is casts a spell that pierces Lloyd's anti-magic barrier. Grim warns Lloyd that Jade s a high-class Demon Lord—a living catastrophe, on the scale of a global natural disaster, and warns him to retreat. After a brief exchange, Lloyd and Jade begin to fight to the death. Jade's spells break directly through Lloyd's barriers, and he's eventually struck by multiple spells. Lloyd, however, was not defeated. It was a decoy made out of dirt. Meanwhile, the Assassin's Guild fights off several remaining demons that fled the castle before Lloyd struck them down, and Lloyd's family arrives to back them up.

0 Figure 5 Monster #8, Episode 8
Kafka being promoted from a cadet to an officer of the Defense Corps.

I'm kind of shocked how much /a/ dislikes Monster #8. Every thread is people complaining about the show (even more so than Solo Leveling), but it's pretty good. The humor and tone is a bit strange at times, but in terms of narrative and execution it far exceeds a lot of the other shows airing this season. And, very importantly, I look forward to it when it airs.

Episode 8 begins right where Episode 7 left off, with the fight between Kafka and Vice-Captain Hoshina. Hoshina strikes fast enough to land multiple strikes on Kafka, but Kafka initially refuses to fight back. When Hoshina strikes Kafka's core, he's forced to counter attack causing Hoshina to retreat, which gives Kafka time to flee. As dawn breaks, Kafka meets with Shinomiya and tells him he let the talking Kaiju escape. Captain Ashiro speaks with Hoshina who informs her that Kaiju No. 8 fought like a human and avoided attacking him directly, which he found strange. Hoshina and Ashiro also learn of the second humanoid Kaiju, and classify it as Kaiju No. 9.

When Ichikawa awakens he's in the hospital, greeted by Kafka and Shinomiya, and thanks them. Iharu wonders why Kaiju No. 8 saved him. Afterwards, Hoshina thanks them all for a successful first mission, and he promotes Kafka to a full officer due to the lives he saved. The next day when Captain Ashiro formally promotes, she tells him he's still a long way off from standing by her side. That evening, he sees Hoshina recreating his battle against Kaiju No. 8, who warns him no normal officer could handle that thing. At the end of the episode, we see several other Kaiju, along with another humanoid, descending upon Japan.

0 Figure 6 Astro Note, Episode 9
Takumi having a picnic with Aoi before telling her he loves Mira instead (sad).

Episode 9 of Astro Note starts with Aoi eating breakfast at the table with everyone else, which Teruko comments is rare. Aoi, speaking with Naosuke, remembers their kiss from Episode 8. Shoin arrives and Mira explains the Hubby spy stole a dummy key. Shoin tells Mira the people of Wid are patiently waiting for her return with the key, then asks if she's in love. After which, she becomes flustered and refuses to answer. Back at Astro Lodge, Naosuke asks Takumi if he remembers Aoi, then shows him an picture of her as a waitress as his old restaurant. Takumi tells Teruko that Aoi has feelings for him, and Teruko laughs and tells him he's the only one who didn't know. Ren's father tells Mira they're not actually related by blood, but he's taking care of him because he loves him (and didn't want him to end up in an orphanage). Ren overhears the entire conversation.

Later, Takumi invites Aoi on a picnic. While there, he tells Aoi he loves Mira, and Aoi tells him "that's obvious". As she's eating, he remembers Aoi from his old restaurant. Aoi begins to cry. That evening, Aoi tells Naosuke she's still nevertheless happy with the result. The next morning, Aoi sees Shoin leaving Naosuke's room and mistakes him for the man she's been talking to all this time.

0 Figure 7 An Archdemon's Dilemma: How to Love Your Elf Bride, Episode 10
Zagan, For, and Chastille fight against Raphael.

Episode 10 of An Archdemon's Dilemma: How to Love Your Elf Bride starts with For questioning the resolve of her own revenge—if she stays with Zagan and Nephy, will she lose her hatred for the one that killed her parents? For decides to seek revenge and leaves for the the old Archdemon's castle and is ambushed by Raphael, the man who killed her parents, but Zagan teleports in defend her. Zagan tells For he'll show her the true power of revenge, and forces Raphael to use his most powerful abilities, only to immediately counter them. Raphael, however, continues to fight even after Zagan lands multiple powerful hits.

Chastille, speaking with Nephy, explains that she doesn't want to fight Zagan. Instead, she wants to fight by his side. For confronts Raphael for killing her father, The Sage Dragon, Orobas, and Raphael tries to kill her again. Just then, Chastille appears through the portal and attacks Raphael as well. Zagan asks what Raphael's real goal is—is he trying to die? Just then, a powerful golem appears, the guardian of the Archdemon's castle. When the golem attacks For, Raphael blocks the attack with his body, and Zagan is able to defeat the golem. Zagan realizes Raphael has received a mortal wound, and as he lay dying he asks him why he killed For's parents.

0 Figure 8 Wonderful Pretty Cure!, Episode 17
Cure Nyammy carries Mayu away from a Garugaru.

I went into Wonderful Pretty Cure! with bated breath because, after weeks, I expected to get a formal introduction to Cure Nyammy. Episode 17 begin with Mayu and Iroha planning to go on a baby animal tour. Mayu, being a dork, arrives at their meeting spot, The Mirror Stone, too early. While there, she wishes to meet Cure Nyammy again. Shortly thereafter, Iroha (and Satoru) arrives and they start their tour around Animal Town. While sharing lunch, Mayu wonders how Yuki was as a kitten, given that she only found her alone as an adult. Deep in a bamboo forest, a Garugaru hatches, and Komugi and Yuki both sense it.

Upon arrival, Iroha and Komugi both transform and find that this Garugaru, a tiger, is much stronger than previous ones, and as a result struggle to contain it. When one of its attacks hurts a family of birds, Mayu runs in to save it and the Garugaru rushes towards to Mayu, and Yuki jumps in to save her. Yuki speaks to her and tells her she shouldn't have gotten involved, and transforms into a human and tells her she'll protect her, then transforms into Cure Nyammy (double transform). Cure Nyammy them proceeds, as one would expect, just to beat the crap out of the Garugaru. After weakening it, she picks up Mayu and flees, and Wonderful and Friendly sent the tiger back to Niko Garden. Afterwards, Yuki yells at Iroha and Komugi for putting Mayu in danger, and tells them not to associate with Mayu anymore.

0 Figure 9 WIND BREAKER, Episode 9
Umemiya fighting against Choji, begging him to "go back" to when he was happy.

WIND BREAKER doesn't even get threads on /a/, which is a shame because it's not too bad. Episode 9 continues the fight between Umemiya and Choji. And Choji, despite landing many hits on Umemiya, is able to deal little damage. Umemiya explains his fists carry no weight because he's not fighting for anything. Umemiya lands multiple powerful strikes on Choji and, after telling him it's a shame, Shishitoren has him as a leader, Choji says he doesn't want anything anymore, and begins to scream like a madman on stage. He then begins to attack Umemiya who refuses to fight back. Umemiya tells Choji he was much stronger in the past, when he had a vision for Shishitoren—when everyone else was having fun.

Choji is struck and knocked unconscious. He awakens to Kame standing above him. He realizes he lost the fight. Choji tells him he's having when everyone else is smiling, and he'd like to go back. He apologizes to Kame, and they both begin to cry. Choji stands, and tells Kame he'll set things right, even if it's too late. He takes off his jacket, hands it to Umemiya, and tells him Shishitoren is now his. Umemiya tells him he doesn't want to lead Shishitoren, and tells him they'll just be friends.

0 Figure 10 THE NEW GATE, Episode 8
Shin and Girart at the end of their duel.

I'll be honest. The charm of THE NEW GATE is slowly wearing off with each passing episode. This isn't to say it's bad, but it is to say it feels less... "sharp". Episode 8 starts with Shin, Schnee, and Tiera meeting with Girart. Girart tells Shin he doesn't have long to live, perhaps less than a month, and asks for a duel. He explains he wants to die in battle to the strongest warrior, Shin. That night, Girart informs everyone of his plans. The night before their duel, Girart asks if Shin if he'd ever return to his home world and leave Schnee behind, and responds he would. The next day everyone arrives at the site of the duel, and Girart says goodbye to his friends and family. When the duel starts, Shin and Girart are in very high spirits. Girart transforms into a werewolf and tells Shin to fight at full strength. In the ensuing struggle, Shin is forced on the defensive and forced to respond with all his strength. He's eventually able to land one strike on Shin, but collapses immediately thereafter. He asks Shin to strike him with his most powerful ability—he does, killing Girart. Later, under a thunderstorm, Girart is buried. While Schnee hugs Shin, be breaks down crying saying it hurts to have a friend die.

0 Figure 11 Chillin' in Another World with Level 2 Super Cheat Powers, Episode 8
Balirossa sitting next to Ghozal at lunch, terrified of him.

Episode 8 of Chillin' in Another World with Level 2 Super Cheat Powers starts with a funny sequence of Balirossa getting married to The Dark One, after which she wakes up screaming. The next morning Balirossa tells Rys of her nightmare, and Rys tells her she must be in love. Rys goes on to explain why she loves Flio (he's nice). Flio detects an approaching demon, and tells everyone to be on alert. Back at the castle, The Princess is informed that Banaza (the hero they summoned) and Sir Flio are likely the same people, and the princess realizes they have to apologize. She's then informed the former hero and his girlfriend have escaped the castle prison. Back at Ghozal's castle, The Dark One orders all efforts to search for where Flio and his friends have teleported to.

Meanwhile, Ghozal's brother Sir Yuigarde learns that his brother is trying to ally with a human, and decides to conquer Klyrode himself. Later, Ghozal arrives and has lunch with Flio, Rys, Balirossa, and Hiya. While there, Balirossa confronts Ghozal for trampling over human lives, and that evening Flio laments the "wall" between humans and demons.

0 Figure 12 The Banished Former Hero Lives as He Pleases, Episode 10
Alan, Lise, Noel, and Mylene arriving in a new town with knights searching for them.

I'm here... alone... again with this week's episode of The Banished Former Hero Lives as He Pleases. Episode 10. We start with Alan, Lise, Noel, and Mylene who, as they leave Henriette's mansion, learn that she's been take prisoner by The Empire. Her younger brother, Curtis, informs them that Henriette has been accused of assassinating The Emperor and they plan to execute her at the capital. After their meeting, Alan tells the others Henriette doesn't have a young brother, but she has indeed been taken by The Black Wolf Knights. Despite the obvious ruse, they agree to accompany Curtis to the capital. While on the way, Alan directly asks Curtis who he is and how he knew they were friends with Henriette. Alan explains he's not her brother, but instead a distant cousin.

While on their way to the capital, Henriette asks what happened to Oswald (the one who went on the rampage in the Elf Forest), and she's informed he was pardoned. While on the way, Alan and crew arrive in a town that's locked down by the Empire, impeding their ability to reach the capital. Alan and Lise go to the town's Adventurer's Guild to acquire information, and Noel and Mylene inquire about the armored knight escorting them who refuses to remove their armor. Alan and Lise indeed learn The Black Wolf Knights are looking for them, and one busts into the Guild asking for information about them, and Lise and Alan flee. As they do, they hear an explosion in the direction of the inn where Noel and Mylene are staying, and upon arrival they find Oswald has captured Noel and Mylene.

0 Figure 13 Gods' Games We Play, Episode 9
Nel plays poker against the Bookmaker.

I never actually watched the opening in full until Episode 9 of Gods' Games We Play but dang, like Liar Liar the opening is way better than it has any right to be. Anyways, the episode starts with Fay explaining the rules against Bookmaker: it's a 1-on-1, and Fay will bet his win for Nel's. The next day they enter Bookmaker's gate and are find a poker table lit by a single hanging light. Bookmaker, or "Gremoire", who looks like Nel, sits at the table and and requests the Fay's wager. Fay, surprising everyone, bets three wins against three of Nel's losses. Gremoire challenges Nel to a game of poker.

On the first hand Gremoire goes all in and Nel folds. On the next hand Nel folds again, but Gremoire has a worthless hand. Gremoire explains that Nel isn't interested in winning, she's only afraid of losing. With her last chip and her third hand, Nel loses and Gremoire explains her loss can never be reversed. She takes three of Fay's wins and begins to leave, when Fay explains he's now going to play her himself. He'll play her again and stake his three remaining wins. Gremoire explains she's going to cheat in the next game, and it will be up to him to determine how she's cheating.

0 Figure 14 A Salad Bowl of Eccentrics, Episode 9
Sara's classmates bowing down to her superiority and elegance.

Episode 9 of A Salad Bowl of Eccentrics begins with Sara's first day of... elementary school. She excels academically, and her peers ask where she went to school previously, but she dodges the question. Nevertheless, she's able to socialize well with her peers. Perhaps too well. One of her classmates, Yayoi, decide to lock her in a gym supply shed, but she uses her brute strength to rip the door open. He classmates then immediately apologize. Meanwhile, Yuna (one of Sara's old friends) breaks up a bullying ring at her middle school. Sara meets with Yuna and apologizes about how they got separated by attending different schools, and Yuna tells Sara (and Sosuke) that she wants to grow up to be a detective.

0 Figure 15 Mysterious Disappearances, Episode 8
Sumireko (as a child) speaks with the owner of a mysterious bookstore.

Episode 8 of Mysterious Disappearances starts with Sumireko recounting how in her childhood she was unable to talk to her peers due to crippling social anxiety. One evening while hiding from her friends, she finds an isolated bookstore and the owner hands her a book to read, on the condition she returns it tomorrow. The next day, she returns it and reads another book. Then another. Then another. Eventually, the owner asks her what happened to her on the first day when she came into the store crying, and Sumireko tells her she struggles to talk to people. The owner tells her to try writing instead of talking, and she decides to become an author. Later, when she tries to return to the bookstore to thank the owner, the path to it has vanished. Until now.

While walking home from work, she notices a hole in a fence and, like she did all those years ago, shrinks back down into her child form, crawls through it, and retraces her steps... only to find that the bookstore is gone. Or, more properly, it's in ruins. And she wonders if it ever existed. She can't find any traces of it, or the books she read, anywhere. When she tells Ren the name, "Gyokushin-dou", he panics. Ren tells her the "Honhime" of legend has a rule for every book you borrow you have to return with one more. Sumireko realizes that she'll have to write her own book and return with it one day. Oh, and Oto still works at the maid cafe.

0 Figure 16 Mission: Yozakura Family, Episode 8
Taiyo dressing as a women to infiltrate Kuyoyuri's organization.

Ugh. Here we are again. Another week of Mission: Yozakura Family. A show with no redeeming qualities (also the character designs are terrible, I think that really works against it). Episode 8 starts with Mutsumi and Taiyo meeting Sui in a park and then heading to Hinagiku's headquarters to speak with the Chief, Rin. And by speak, they mean have a tea party with her. Kyoichiro busts into the room and asks Rin to hand over Mutsumi, and begins to fight Rin. Mutsumi and Taiyo break in to stop the fight. Afterwards, Rin asks Taiyo to investigate "The Dancing Politician" Yoshimasu Kuroyuri. He and a group of spies he's employing have assassinated many political rivals, and he's already making bombs to assassinate more. Rin tells Taiyo to determine who is bombing targets are.

Sui and Mutsumi rip off Taiyo's clothes and force him to cross dress as a secretary to infiltrate Kuyoyuri's organization and gather intelligence. At Kuyoyuri's next rally, several protesters attack him, and Kuyoyuri's saves their life by protecting one of them from falling stage equipment, injuring him and forcing him to be rushed to the hospital. But this is all a ruse, and he was never actually injured and they were all actors. Back at party headquarters, try as Taiyo might, he can't find any hard evidence of crimes, nor could I identify any bombing targets. That's when he realizes their dancing is actually morse code, and all of their planes have been "danced" out in the open. And, as a result Taiyo is able to identify the bombing target: the Deputy Prime Minister and anyone else on stage. But the next day when the bomb is set to go off on stage it instead blows up a nearby fountain. Kuyoyuri holds a gun to Taiyo's head, calls him by his name, and tells him he has another bomb. He then shoots Taiyo in the head, and the bomb goes off. But that bomb fails too, and the bullets in Kuyoyuri's gun were fakes. Sui appears to back him up. Together, they place Kuyoyuri under arrest. While on the way back, Kuyoyuri warns Taiyo that the death of his entire family wasn't a mere accident.

0 Figure 17 Unnamed Memory, Episode 8
Oscar stabs Tinasha in the stomach to extract some sort of possession thing?

I don't even know where Unnamed Memory is going to go after Episode 7. Episode 7 felt like a season finale. Anyways, Episode 8 starts with Tinasha looting Tuldarr's treasury for magic items. After the opening, Tinasha speaks with a woman whose village was recently destroyed by nomads. The next day Oscar and a small group of knights are ambushed by bandits who ask demand a woman as the spoils for a duel (the woman is the one Tinasha spoke to earlier). In the duel, Oscar cuts the man's arm off. The man collapses and a large cyclone appears and an earthquake rips open the ground, and Oscar and Tinasha fall down into a crevice. They land in Ito's sacred halls and begin to explore. When they do, they run into Elze (the women they saved) who has been possessed. Tinasha is able to absorb the possession herself and Oscar has to cut her open to extract it (literally what?). Tinasha awakens several days later in bed, and Elze returns to the ruins of her village.

0 Figure 18 The Many Sides of Voice Actor Radio, Episode 8
Yumiko breaks down crying after a bad set.

After the disaster that was Episode 7 of The Many Sides of Voice Actor Radio, I went into Episode 8 with very low expectations. It starts with Yumiko and Chika visiting Asaka's (their script writer) apartment, which is a complete mess. So much so they clean up for her. After their weird train station walk last episode, their fans are harassing other fans who harass them? Or something? Later, Yumiko and Chika audition for roles in an upcoming anime. Yumiko gets an audition request for a villain character, Shirayuri, in an upcoming anime. During their radio show, Chika seems mad and becomes despondent during school. Yumiko asks why she's mad, and Chika explains that it's because she passed her "Phantom" anime audition, an anime she is also acting in. At a recording session the next day, Yumiko struggles to keep up and other actors and actresses ridicule her. That night, she breaks down crying in the rain as a result of her poor performance.

0 Figure 19 Spice & Wolf, Episode 9
Lawrence knocks Holo's hand away when she tries to comfort him.

This is just not a good remake... but who knows I never watched the original. I only read the LNs. Episode 9 of Spice & Wolf starts with Holo teasing Lawrence for how well he got along with Nora. When he arrives at the trading company he learns that The Northern Expedition has been canceled, the armor he bought on credit is now worthless, and he has two days to settle the debt, or he will be bankrupt. Back at Rowen, he explains his situation and he's informed he's on his own. Lawrence tries to pay his debt by taking out loans, but no one will loan him money. At the end of the day, Lawrence lashes out at Holo who returns to the Inn.

0 Figure 20 The Train to the End of the World, Episode 9
Yoka living in Ikebukuro, post 7G incident.

Episode 9 of The Train to the End of the World starts with a bizarre sequence of Yoka's daily life in Ikebukuro. At lunch, Yoka has vague memories of her hometown Agano when she's served bitter melon. Poison Pontaro introduces himself as the mayor, and refers to Yoko as a princess, and has a flashback of the 7G incident. While walking around post 7G Ikebukuro, Yoko is able to transform it all at her whim. The few surviving humans in Ikebukuro despite the "witch" Yoko and attack her for changing the world with 7G. Pontaro warns Yoko's guard not to betray him.

While traveling, Shizuru and the group run into the hermit riding the swan boat who gave them a map in an earlier episode. The stop the train and speak with him, and they learn his map was right all along. The Hermit explains the universe is shrinking but Ikebukuro is expanding. He warns them the powers in Ikebukuro are doing everything in their power to stop the world from returning to how it was before 7G. He then gives them an updated map, the girls given him supplies, and he departs with a warning: beware The Witch of Ikebukuro. Back in Agano, Zenjiro, speaking with the scientist, warns that Ikebukuro's expansion will soon "pop" and destroy everything, and warns they have to stop Pontaro. Back in Ikebukuro, Pontaro warns Pochi that Yoka's friends may be on their way, and it's imperative she not meet them and regain her memories.

0 Figure 21 Studio Apartment, Good Lighting, Angel Included, Episode 10
Noel speaking with Towa, Tsumugi, Lilishka, and Tsurumi after watching a movie together.

Inshallah, praise be to Ganesha, after this we only have two episodes of Studio Apartment, Good Lighting, Angel Included. Please let's just end the madness. After school, Noel, Tsumugi, and Shintaro go to a cake shop. While there, Towa sees Noel feeding Shintaro cake and gets jealous. Later, Shintaro and Towa make up. At work, Noel tries to invite Shintaro on a deito, but runs into all the other girls already eating there. When she invites him to see a movie, he learns that he's working late and all the other girls go with her instead. They all enjoy the movie. Afterwards, Noel realizes she's friends with all the girls and thanks Shintaro for bringing them together. In a post credit scene, the air conditioning breaks in Shitaro's apartment and Lilishka shows up to give them an invitation to The Occult Research Club's "summer program".

0 Figure 22 As a Reincarnated Aristocrat, I'll Use My Appraisal Skill [...] the World, Episode 8
Charlotte telling Ars she's sleeping in the same bad as her.

As a Reincarnated Aristocrat, I'll Use My Appraisal Skill to Rise in the World is one of the only shows, perhaps of this entire season, that has transcended just being "bad" and has entered the realm of genuinely leaving a bad taste in my mouth when I watch it. There's just a general... ennui, as it were, perhaps as a result of the tone of the show, which one would (as I did) expect to be comedic and charming becoming dark and miserable. In simpler terms, it's just a show that takes itself too seriously. As such, I'm going to cut down the amount I type about in the remaining shows. Let it be said, however, that I did give this show a proper chance.

At the start of Episode 8, the council is preparing for war, but Ars warns them it may be a trap and asks for extra time to investigate. Reitz puts him in touch with a mercenary group that can gather more information. Licia arrives and asks to stay the night, and the next day they meet with the mercenaries on the outskirts of town. After arriving at a bar, Ars realizes the waitress serving them is the head of the organization in disguise, and he gets attacked buy him (the waitress is a man) moments later, and Rietz jumps in to save him. The leader asks Ars how he knew who he was, and he says he can identified skilled people like him: Mazak. Mazak says his name is Pham now, and agrees to the job.

Other Remarks

Still practicing the piano! More tarot cards from Bana should arrive this week, too!

Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 FE+
I bought a tablet for reading sheet music and teaching next year!
by Morganna Nikolaevna

I'm posting this a bit early—it's not quite June yet, but we're close enough to the end of May I decided to rollover all the May posts to the Archive and make the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 FE+ post now.

I was considering buying a tablet for a while now for two main reasons. The first, is that it may be a bit easier to read sheet music (all of which, for me, is digital) given that I'm trying to learn the piano. I still plan to print off sheet music (sometimes it's nice to be able to write one the pages), but as time progresses I think it's prudent to have a tablet available. The second is that when I teach I also have digital notes of all the content I'd like to cover, and right now I read those digital notes off a laptop in front of me, and I thought it may be a bit easier to have a tablet. We'll see if I'm right next year!

0 Figure 1 My current homescreen.
I set my homescreen to be a very cute (and mildly sexy) Alice from Alice in Wonderland.
Samsung Galaxy - S22 Ultra.

There's a lot of good tablets out there. I went with the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 FE+ because it had a reasonably big screen and it came in pink (which Samsung call's for whatever reason Lavender). It also comes with a stylus, which I always like (even if I rarely use it) because it makes the whole think seem more "aesthetic". I was strongly considering putting some fun yuri stickers on the back of the tablet, but given that I plan to have this in my hand at school that may be a bad call. Speaking of that, now that I've actually held this tablet in my hand I must say it's pretty big. The smaller one (The S9 FE) may have been a better call if I am to hold it in my hand all day next year. But then it may have been worse for sheet music? Alas, there was no winning, I think.

0 Figure 2 My current lock screen.
I set the lock screen to be a less sexy but still cute version of Alice.
Samsung Galaxy - S22 Ultra.

I don't plan to put a case on it, which may or may not be a bad call. I'll probably feel like an idiot if/when I scratch the back of it. But I feel like cases make things feel so bulky and clunky... I just can't put one on a thin sleek tablet like this! It'll take some getting used to (I'm still not super keen on touch interfaces), but when all I really need to do is open .pdf's and maybe watch a video or two I think I'll figure out how to manage. My Linux laptop is still great, I think.

Other Remarks

I'm still making slow and steady piano progress. It can sometimes feel like a slog when the book has me playing a song I don't like, but I am getting better! Learning I See The Light, however, is proving immensely challenging. At the current rate I'm going I'd be lucky if I finish that song by summer's end!
